And there are other reasons to believe.
But we can see by looking at the totally of science that we know so far, that it is quite unlikely there is a God of the kind religions believe in.
I wonder whether the church people, at least the educated and thoughtful among them, are beginning to realize this in their private thoughts -- notwithstanding their adamant assertions on Yahoo Answers.

Hahahaha. No. We arent stupid. We have chosen to believe and have faith. There are many who choose not to believe. Both of these things are because we have free will.

But... I ask you this - If I am wrong, and there is no God, then I will be fine when I die... and nothing will happen to me or to you.

If I am right, and there is a God, then I am fine, and I go to heaven to be with Him. What happens to you?

what are you even talking about? You should be reported because you're not even asking a question. And you say WE abuse Q/A. Get real, man. I don't know what past problems you've had w/ religion but it's your choice to decide which one is the true one. Even if you decide not to choose, that's still making a choice;you're still taking a stand...against God. Tell me HOW creation as we know it got here by some mindless little parasite. Science is mostly theory. And the once smartest minds of all time have been WAY off before. So what makes more sense: An intelligent loving Creator or a microscopic organism (which no one knows where IT came from) evolovng into billions of things. Or maybe a bunch of rocks exploding created our life. Do something for me. Get a bunch of nails, wood, & paint. Put them all into a big pile & blow them up. Let me know when you get a table out of it. Or Get a "water bear" or heck, get a million of 'em & let me know when 1 starts mutating.

The intelligent ones usually have their reasons for believing. Pope John Paul II said that evolution is the truth. It can't be denied that CS Lewis was an extremely intelligent person. I have to say that there are Christians out there that are in it because they've been scared into it, but I don't think that's a fair analysis of the educated and thoughtful ones.

EDIT: The girl above me just proved your point. Man, that's hilarious.

A lot of people were introduced to the concepts of 'god' and 'jesus' at a very young age - well before they were capable of comprehending what they were being told.

Christianity, as well as other religions work like mind viruses. Once you have been taught the tenets of christianity, you will never be able to truly think freely again because you will always have this little voice in the back of your head whispering 'what if they were right?'.

That's why I think that teaching christian, or any other religious beliefs to children is a form of child abuse.

Yes There is a God and he is real. It has nothing to do with science. I wish you would look in to it a little better.becauce your life depends on the choices that you make. Jesus Christ is here with all of us.but not all people belong to him. You have to eccept Jesus Christ as your personal savior to have a life with the lord and when you live your life for the lord he takes care of you.I realy wish you would talk to someone about this matter. As a Christion i want you to know that the lord has been there for me in every situationthat has come in my life. You know Jesus Christ is real.becauce you feel him he is working on you from the inside and it is not something you have to guess about.YOU KNOW when the Lord is with you. May you find your way. God bless you!

I think that you need to begin reading the scientific research. MANY of the researchers are very specific about their belief in GOD. You seem to be reading a select group of science papers that I have not seen. Why don't you forward them to me so that I might have something to laugh about later. PS... I have been a mathematics and physics major in school. Have a great week.

I'm sure many do realize gods are imaginary but believe just in case. Some, however, believe god is real because it makes them feel good inside or something.

Please read my words carefully:
If you see footmark in the sand, you'll say that someone passed from here...
If you see a piece of dog sh*t on the ground, you'll say that a dog passed from here...
So what about the enormous universe, the sky, stars, planets, earth and all the beauty in it, doesn't it lead to that someone made it?!!!

Some people say that everything is created by itself after the big-bang... I won't ask you about what caused the big-bang, but I'll ask you a simple question:
If you take all the letters of the alphabet, multiples of them, and you threw them randomly on the floor. Do you expect (by a chance of one in infinity) to get a poem like shakespear's??!!

Can't you see how organized our universe is, the planets, the eco-system on earth, look even in your own body... Can you control your heart-beat? Can you control your breath while you're sleeping? Who stopped your eye-lashes from growing after reaching a certain length? Who told the baby turtles to move towards the sea and not to the earth after they come out of their eggs? Who taught the bird how to make nests?

My friend, think with your heart and brain. If you're still lost, think about the following:

Do you know how to play safe?
Non-believers' point:
If there's no God and you do all what you want in life, then nothing will happen to you after life. But if there was God and you were mistaken, then you'll blame yourself FOREVER...

Believer's point:
If there's God and I followed His commands in life, then I'll be in Heaven after life FOREVER. But if there was no God and we're mistaken, then nothing bad will happen to us after life...

Now you know how to play-safe, in case you're not convinced?

Here's some logic:

Christians are called to love people, not convert people. (This is where the hypocrites fall out of the logic)

If Christians love people, Christians will not lie to people.

If Christians will not lie to people, they must be telling the truth.

If they are telling the truth, then God is real.

That would explain the huge numbers of people trying Pascal's Wager as a conversion tool...
