your school should have a special fund for students to help them pay for books. go to the financial aid office and let them know your situation and i am sure they will tell you the name of the fund. usually all you have to do is fill out a form and agree that the money will only be used for books (they will want receipts back) and they will either give you the money or put it on your student id card. keep up the great work, seriously. you have come so far, dont even entertain the idea of quitting. another idea, try checking the books out of the library, borrowing someone's book and making copies. if your professors dont keep a copy on reserve at the library, go to them and personally ask that they lend you a copy. i know you may not want to put your business out there, but your a great student and you can only succeed with the proper tools. i am sure they will be willing. let us know how it turns out.

Wow, bravo to you for hanging in there! You're such a role model...

Anyway, I don't have a quick and easy solution for your problem. Maybe you can borrow the books from your teacher or a fellow student and copy them? Will Office Max let you do it for free, since you work there? I don't know if the cost you mentioned was for new or second hand books, but getting them second hand might shave a fraction off the price. Maybe some one at your college has a suggestion for you? It's hard being made fun of, for whatever the reason, but you'll come out stronger in the end. Hang in there!

Your school might have other grants or Scholarships etc..If you can't get those try getting a loan you can pay back the money after you get the degree or while you were attending college. Go to the financial aid office where you are going to attend and find out.

Well, until you can come up with money to buy the books, I think your library may have a copy of the books you could use. If they don't, try to borrow someone elses when possible or make photo copies.
