If you're using a flat iron, make sure your hair is COMPLETELY dry before you start straightening it or that smell could be your hair burning! Also, put on a leave in conditioner first, while your hair is still wet...try ThermaSilk.

Are you rinsing well when you use conditioner? Also depends on the kinds of products you're spraying on your hair, before you straighten it. Also, if your flat-iron is new(er), it could leave a "plasticy" smell for a while, until you've used it for a while. Last, and most importantly, use the LOWEST heat setting possible to get your hair straight. If you see steam/smoke coming from your hair after you run it thru, you will definately get a weird smell!

For some days end straightening it, get a hair protectant from the warmth or in spite of. you're burning your hair, and next time turn the warmth down. As splendidly at the instant and scene you elect to look, you do no longer choose to lose your beautiful locks. Now do you?

if you use a flat iron, it could be that the iron is too hot for your hair and thus burning your hair, that could be the smell. try turning down the heat and let your hair relax for a few days and don't use any heat source on your hair. you may try a few deep conditioning treatments also.

Your probably burning your hair, try not to have the blow dryer so close to your hair, If it's still the same then buy a new blow dryer. Since blow drying your hair can cause long term damage to your hair you shoud also try to do hot oil hair treatment once a week. Hope it helps.

Maybe you smell your hair burning. Maybe you're holding the straightening iron in one place for too long.
