The Aztecs were a warrior people. The worshipped a variety of deities. HUmkan blood was the food of those deiteis. Human sacrifice was used mainly as a form of capitol punishment for criminals, prisoners of war and the like. Most of the time only small amounts of blood were all that was necessary to sustaing the gods. Those amounts were most often taken from the priests themsleves, as well as the emperor. Only in times of extreme necessity did large scale sacrifices take place (drought, famine, or other disaster as well as before major, important battles.) There were also instances of volunteers being sacrificed to be messengers to the gods. While there is a reputation of them slaughtering thousands every week, the logistics of that hosw that it could not have happened that way. the would have run out of people as well as time for that.

Human sacrifice replaced into the utmost point of a complete panopoly of judgements wherein the Aztecs sought to pay off their debt to the gods. the two Sahagún and Toribio de Benavente suggested that the Aztecs gladly parted with each and everything: burying, smashing, sinking, slaying massive parts of quail, rabbits, canine, feathers, vegetation, bugs, beans, grains, paper, rubber and treasures as sacrifices. Even the "degree" for human sacrifice, the large temple-pyramids, replaced into an offering mound: full of treasures, grains, soil and human and animal sacrifices that have been buried as presents to the deities. embellished with the land's top artwork, treasure and victims, those temples had grow to be buried selections under new platforms each and every a million/2 a century. The sacrifice of animals replaced into undemanding, a convention for which the Aztecs bred canine, eagles, jaguars and deer. products even have been sacrificed, broken and provided to their gods. The cult of Quetzalcóatl required the sacrifice of butterflies and hummingbirds.

first of all the aztecs were polythiestic and made sacrifices to their gods in temples. the sacrifices themselves were human sacrifices and were usually captives of war. the aztecs would kill thousands weekly. the sacrifices were done as follows....the priest would snatch the heart out of the sacrifice's chest while it was still beating and then throw them (the sacrifice) down the thousands of stairs of the temple
