No. The borders of our country are so big they are easily penetrated by land. If someone is going to get into our country to bring harm they will enter on foot if neccessary and they won't need a passport.
When I was in Italy, I had to give my passport to every hotel I where I stayed. In the US it is hard to tell who is an American because of our multi culture. You can't stop everyone and ask them for their passport. I think it is just another stupid law to make us feel safe.
Much like a lot of the airport rules. Passengers go through more BS and we really aren't any safer. Things still get on to planes and un documented workers work on the flight lines. I don't feel safe.

So the US government says , however there aren't alot of illegal emmigrees flying into the US from Canada, they usually dump their ids and stay in Canada. And although there are some illegals crossing into the US from Canada it's hardly like the exodus from Mexico.
Frankly I think it's a shame , we've had the longest undefedended border since 1815 and since 2001 we've been blamed for letting terrorists into the US , when the vast majority of the 9/11 hijackers were in Florida. Canada's being penalized for your Mexican illegals problem and laxness with finding people who overstayed their student visas.
And then of course there's the Mahar Arar case.....which the Bush administration hasn't apologized for yet either.

I think it is a good idea for all countries. Considering when I went to Mexico a few times, I did not have to show a passport when I went across the border. When I came back to the US I just showed them my drivers license. That is pretty scary that I could walk back and forth with just an ID.

I think that it is a good idea and that we should have always used our passports when traveling. I doubt that it will affect anything...at all...in any way. The people that make that passports will have more work to do. But it will not stop anyone from crossing the border illegally. nothing will change.

People would like you to think so, but considering you can get into the country with ease, i think it just means more trouble for the legal citizens and of course a mess with postal services to fulfull the needs of millions of people with passports. Lets also not forget the cost of $50 a pop. Not exactly fair to those who struggle financially.

Its just another way for the government, to know where you are going and where you have been. I don't think it will hurt anything, other than the privacy of travel or's but I guess the governments are going to do what they chose. Immigrants will still come over here either way, there is always a back door.
