Who or what is the antichrist?

The term antichrist is only found in the epistles of John (1 John 2:18,22; 4:3; 2 John 7). The antichrist is the one who opposes Christ and thus God. The antichrist is an eschatological (end times) person who will appear and deceive countless people near the time of Christ's return. The antichrist is associated with Satan and will be aided by demonic forces in his unholy movement against God and in his attempt to rule the nations of the world. Most scholars agree that the antichrist will claim to be God and will rule many nations in Europe and bring the world to the brink of destruction.
Paul does not use the term "antichrist." Instead, he uses the term "man of lawlessness" in 2 Thess. 2:3 to describe an evil person who will stand in great opposition to God and His people. Paul speaks regarding the Day of the Lord...

"Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God," (2 Thess. 2:3).

There are Old Testament references to the antichrist, though the terms "antichrist" and "man of lawlessness" are not used. Instead, "the little horn" and "worthless shepherd" are used as they prophecy his arrival.

Dan.7:8,22, "While I was contemplating the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth uttering great boasts...22 I kept looking, and that horn was waging war with the saints and overpowering them."
Zech. 11:17, “Woe to the worthless shepherd who leaves the flock! A sword will be on his arm and on his right eye! His arm will be totally withered, and his right eye will be blind.”

From the Zechariah passage and the one found in Rev. 13:2-3, some theologians believe that the antichrist will suffer a head wound that will be fatal. But, like the devil who imitates the truth in order to deceive, the antichrist will rise from the dead. His resurrection will be assisted by Satan. However, he will retain his wounds. His right arm will be withered and he will be blind in his right eye.

"And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power and his throne and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been slain, and his fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast," (Rev. 13:2-3).

The Spirit of Antichrist

The term "antichrist" is also used to describe a spiritual condition. In other words, it is descriptive of those people who oppose the true God. "Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen; from this we know that it is the last hour...22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son," (1 John 2:18,22). In 1 John 4:3 John says that all who do not confess Jesus are of the spirit of the antichrist, "and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world."

Many people feel that the beast is religious and so identify it as a particular religion. Others feel that it is the antichrist and so identify it as one charismatic individual. But the beast cannot be religious, however, because that is covered by Babylon the Great spoken of in Revelation 18. Neither can it be the antichrist since the Bible plainly states that there are many antichrists – not just one and these antichrists have been in existence since the apostle John wrote about them in the first century.

The wild beast and its image are referred to in Revelation 13:1-3 and Revelation 13:14, respectively. Compare the beast of verses 1-3 with the description of the beast in Daniel 7:2-8. They are remarkably similar. The beast of Daniel also has the characteristics of a lion, bear and leopard. Daniel 7:17 plainly describes this beast as four kings or four political entities. If we compare that to Daniel 8:3-8, 20-25, we see still other political entities described as beasts. Clearly, the Bible describes kingdoms or political entities as beast-like animals and the one in Revelation is no different. It represents political powers.

The image that is made must reflect the original beast. So the image is also a political entity. The first beast gets its power from the dragon, according to Revelation 13:2. The dragon, of course, is Satan. The Bible repeatedly describes him as the ruler of this world, and the god of this system of things. That Satan gives power to the political entities is no surprise; remember that he also offered all the kingdoms of the world to Christ at Luke 4:6.

I will leave it at that for now.

"The Beast" is the antichrist (including his government) mentioned at Revelation 13:10. "The Image of the Beast" (Rev. 13:14-15) is a statue of some kind that the false prophet sets up in the Third Temple in Jerusalem; the image is able to speak. Many people are mislead into thinking this is a miracle and will follow the Beast as a result.

The seven heads of the Scarlet Beast are 7 SEQUENTIAL kingdoms.
All of these powerful kingdoms either invaded or ruled the land of Israel at some point in time.

1st kingdom - Assyrian Empire Ezekiel
2nd kingdom - Egyptian Empire
3rd kingdom - Babylonian Empire (612 B.C. - 539 B.C.)
4th kingdom - Medo-Persian Empire(539 B.C. - 330 B.C.)
5th kingdom - Greek Empire (330 B.C. - 163 B.C.)
6th Kingdom - Roman Empire
7th Kingdom - Ottoman Empire (1299 A.D. - 1922 A.D.)

The image of the beast is the second beast.
Rev 13:11 Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon.

It is an Image of the lamb.
The lamb as we know is Jesus.

But it speaks like the dragon.
The dragon is the devil and his lies that he speaks.

So Then the Image of the beast is a pretend Christ with a pretend kingdom that tried to act and look like Christ new Goverment.

This matches up with the Roman Catholic Church that behaves like a government (The state of the Vatican with its own president) and religious institution like Christ kingdom but
it talks like the dragon. Having mixed pagan roman culture will Christ teachings.

I am reading now that the beast is the Catholic Church and that the number of the beast refers to the sum of the roman numerals on the popes crown...there is some very convincing evidience that this is true....I will get my book and post some of these soon on here......one clue to look for soon:If the protestant churches of America get behind an amendment to the constitution to make Sunday the Sabath officially and to make it a crime to work on that day......the National Sabbath law ignores the fact that the true Sabbath is Saturday and SUN day is a pagn ritual day.....now watch what answers pop up here....hoo-boy

My thoughts are that the beast is the church and the image is its blind followers. Think about it. The beast has many thinking it is good, godlike, etc and so many follow blindly. Time for people to stop going to church and realize they are the Church. Time for people to stop pimpin' god and start serving God's creation..if they are believers. If not, well, can't we all just get along?
