Because for people with ADHD a stimulant has the opposite affect than it does for someone who doesn't have it. It has something to do with our body chemistry. That is why doctors prescribe stimulants to treat ADHD. (this can also be true for some meds that are supposed to make you sleepy but do just the opposite for those with ADHD, they can make symptoms worse)

If the medication makes you real sleepy then the dose is probably too high.

Why does caffeine make you tired after awhile. Stimulants encorage the adrenaline glands of the endocrine system to release glucocorticoids. This causes the liver to release glucagon which is a complex stored sugar. But after the increase in blood sugar comes the low. I am not sure of how the stimulants for ADHD work but I think it is similar.

It may be stimulating you and keeping you awake at night. I know lots of children who are on medication that appear very tired in school. Often it is because they are not sleeping well at night.

Dosages can be modified. Tell your doctor the symptoms you are having. You may be taking too much or too little.
