Jumping rope burns around 12 calories per minute using moderate speed if you weigh somewhere around 150 lbs. The heavier you are the more calories that you burn and vice versa.

20-30 minutes per day would be great for cardio. You could split it into two cardio sessions per day to make it easier. And you could also start at 15/20 minutes and add 1-2 minutes each week.

Instead of counting each skip, you should set an amount of time you are going to exercise. Skipping rope is definately rigorous cardio activity. If you can start at 10 mins and increase your time to 20-30 mins that would be a good start. Be sure to exercise atleast every other day. Being fit makes you feel great! Good luck.:)

You shouldn't count the skips really. Count the time that you consume with skipping while also observing your pace. Start of easy with like half an hour a day or something. Then increase that.

Get a heart rate monitor and a book about working out using your your heart rate as a reference to proper training according to what your goals are. Currently to work out on mormal days, I get my heart rate up to 60% of my maximum heart rate. That's 60% rate before I go into lactate acid thresh-hold (now you see why you need a book) for 40 minutes. One day a week I get it up to about 90% and then back down to 40% as many as 8 to 10 times. Doing that will give you performance advances. The arte of skips will depend on how many times a minute you need to get your heart up to those points. It's scientific.

start with skipping for 10 min or however long you can manage then try to increase it by 5 minutes every week! Always listen to your body, if you need to stop, Stop! Don't push yourself too hard if you haven't exercised in a while, Good luck.

How many you do or how fast you go is not as important when you are first starting out. Remember to start out slow, and get your heart beating to the point just before it starts feeling uncomfortable. Twenty minutes or more of sustained target heart rate is great to begin with.

Good luck with your training. :) Most important of all.........KEEP IT FUN
