How about time? Material things? Labor?

Won't pay the bills, isn't that shameful? Alll this person can see is dollars in the church. Such is much of the church leadership.

Time and labor spent for the lord is the most valuable. Remember, Jesus didn't ask the rich man for his money, look!!!

I am happy to give money to my church. Please, change your church if you do not trust how they use the money. Tithe is 10% of your income and offering is above the tithe. God does not need your money, He wants your heart. And when you open your heart, you open your wallet too.

All the money is God's money, you are just keeper of the money. Still, He does not ask you to give all the money to Him..only 10% and He will bless you. I am confident that you will do much better with 90% of your income with God's blessing than with 100% of your income of your own.

He will pay your ten fold. So what is the amount you want to have your blessings from? Tithe and offerings are the part of the spiritual obedience that is hardest to fake.

I have regretted a lot of things I have been using my money for. I have never regretted giving money to Kingdom purposes so that more people can be lead to Christ or to be clothed or fed. My only wish is that I could give more.

My Pastor never takes a tithe offering in our services.

There is a box in the back of the church for a person to slip their GOD-LED tithe offering inside.

My pastor is of the belief that "WHERE GOD GUIDES, GOD PROVIDES!"

He has also stated that if there should one day not be enough funds to run all of our ministry services within the church and within our community and within the world... then that is when God is telling Him that he might not be doing the job God has called him to do." Hence the phrase, "Where God guides, God provides."

Our tithes are completely and totally dependant on God, not someone's wallet or purse or bank account.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS:
On that note: let me say that there have been times when I was not able to tithe but I have donated my time as a manicurist for people in our fellowship and or their friends who needed some pampering to lift their spirits in difficult times.

I believe that though God clearly talks about financial responsibility when offering tithes for the church, there are also clear guidelines for the offering of one's time and talent(s).

These are two different ways that a Christian can serve the Kingdom of Heaven.

Because that is what the tithe is about - money - or what you receive for labor you have done. Give me Scripture where tithing or giving of an offering has to do with time or labor.

RESPONSE:
I completely agree that time and labor are very important. There are some that believe they can give money and not have to do any service. Then there are those who believe that they can do service to replace giving money. There has to be a balance.

However, when the Bible refers to tithing, it never has anything to do with time and labor. It has to do with the fruits of your labor - money or whatever you were paid with during that period. Remember, what a person does with his or her money is a good indication of where his or her heart is.

Won't pay the bills.

Added:
It is ridiculous to think that a church does not require money to function. Churches offer fellowship and help understanding the message of God as well as helping those people who need it. All of that requires money and that money comes from the congregation.

Ever notice how other venues for gathering socially cost money?

When was the last time you spent money at a night-club?
Movie theatre,
Restaurant,
Etc.

It costs money to provide a house of worship and pay for the salaries of those who organize the meetings.
.
Nothing wrong with that, is there?
.
And, if you don't attend, you don't have to pay!

Tithing is again a Christian concept...church rule. It is not the same witih other religions. Asking for resources from the group allows all to sustain each other.

I discuss all of those things. When I talk about stewardship, I always talk about stewardship of time, relationships, etc, as well as money. (I am an ELCA Lutheran pastor)

You have to give them money, in order for them to be your friend. They want the gold, & only gold. They are not interested in your labor.
