A baked potato, also known as a jacket potato, is the edible result of baking a potato. Generally potatoes are baked either in an oven, a microwave oven, on a grill, or on an open fire. Baked potatoes are widely popular due to their availability, ease of preparation, and filling nature.
The recommended oven temperature for baking potatoes is 350°F / 175°C / Gas Mark 4. Schools are divided on whether it is better to wrap the potato in aluminum foil to retain moisture or to leave the potato unwrapped to create a crispy skin. A baked potato is fully cooked when its internal temperature reaches 210°F.
Once a potato has been baked, some people remove the skin and eat only the softer and moister interior, while others enjoy the taste and texture of the crispy skin. Vitamins, minerals, pesticides, fungicides, chemical coatings, and trace elements in a potato are found within or immediately below the skin.
American restaurants serve baked potatoes with sides (commonly referred to as fixings or toppings) such as butter, sour cream, chives, shredded cheese, and bacon bits. The British often choose to have grated cheese (often with baked beans), tuna or a variety of other fillings.

4 mins is not long enough to bake a potato in the microwave
I cook them for 5mins in the microwave then for 15 min in the oven (it takes less time than just the oven but the skin gets a better flavour from the oven)
or if I have the time I will bake the potatoes in the oven for 1 hour
(I just wash the potatoes
- I don't rub with oil or salt
but I always pierce the skin a few times with a fork or knife
and I never wrap in foil)
Here are some recipes I found:

Microwave Baked Potato
SUBMITTED BY: IMBEAUTIFUL1
"If you want the yummy taste of nice slowly baked potato, but aren't patient enough, or don't have the know how to bake it in an oven, well this is for you. Give it twelve minutes, get a mouth watering, taste bud-tingling treat."
INGREDIENTS
* 1 large russet potato
* 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
* 3 tablespoons shredded Cheddar cheese
* salt and pepper to taste
* 3 teaspoons sour cream
DIRECTIONS
1. Scrub the potato, and prick several time with the tines of a fork. Place on a plate.
2. Cook on full power in the microwave for 5 minutes. Turn over, and continue to cook for 5 more minutes. When the potato is soft, remove from the microwave, and cut in half lengthwise. Season with salt and pepper, and mash up the inside a little using a fork. Top the open sides with butter and 2 tablespoons of cheese. Return to the microwave, and cook for about 1 minute to melt the cheese.
3. Top with remaining cheese and sour cream, and serve.

The Baked Potato
Recipe courtesy Alton Brown
Show: Good Eats
Episode: This Spud's for You
1 large russet potato (If it looks like Mr. Potato Head(r), you've got the right one.)
Canola oil to coat
Kosher salt
Heat oven to 350 degrees and position racks in top and bottom thirds. Wash potato (or potatoes) thoroughly with a stiff brush and cold running water. Dry, then using a standard fork poke 8 to 12 deep holes all over the spud so that moisture can escape during cooking. Place in a bowl and coat lightly with oil. Sprinkle with kosher salt and place potato directly on rack in middle of oven. Place a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any drippings.
Bake 1 hour or until skin feels crisp but flesh beneath feels soft. Serve by creating a dotted line from end to end with your fork, then crack the spud open by squeezing the ends towards one another. It will pop right open. But watch out, there will be some steam.
NOTE: If you're cooking more than 4 potatoes, you'll need to extend the cooking time by up to 15 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
Check the potato to make sure it is free of eyes or any dirt (I think a quick rinse with water would be okay.)
Use a paper towel to remove excess water.
Rub olive oil onto the skin (it makes it crispy.)
Use a fork to poke hole in the potato - for venting.
Place the potato on a cookie sheet or pan and bake for 60 minutes, or until the potato feels tender.

Scrub the skin thoroughly and pat dry. Poke several times with a fork. Rub melted butter into the skin and sprinkle lightly with salt. (The butter and salt can be omitted if you don't eat the skin of the potato, but you still have to poke it with the fork to let steam out.) Wrap tightly in aluminum foil and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for about an hour--longer if your potatoes are large.

Cook it at 450 degrees F. One hour should do it. Make sure you stab it a couple of times with a fork so it doesn't explode. You can wrap it in foil for a softer skin, or without foil, for a crunchier skin. To test for doneness, give it a little squeeze. It should feel soft after an hour. If not, give 15 more minutes.

medium sized potato, poke it with a fork a few times to allow steam to escape, in the nuker for about 4 minutes, depending on the nuker.
if you want one from the oven, so the same thing but wrap it in tin foil and place on a baking sheet. Oven set to around 350 it should take about 15 minutes

Wash it, and prick it with a fork, pre-heat the oven to about 450 degrees, and let it go for about an hour, and YUMMMY. If the potatoes are small, just keep checking them. Good luck ~~~~
