can i claim head of househould despite the fact that i am renting from somebody?

yes,as long as they don't claim you as a dependent. If you have your own income you can file by yourself. I do believe you have to have a dependent in order to claim head of household. Read the small print on the tax booklet.

Yes, most head of households don't own their own home, but pay rent to someone.
