My cat was in my room sleeping for a while, then she started banging on the door like she normally does when she wants let out. She came running out of my room, came downstairs, and acted like she could barely walk. My mom put ran her over to the litter box thinking she just had to go really bad. Then my cat threw up. Why would she do this? She seems better now, and is walking normally. She hasn't thrown up any more. What is wrong with her?

She just went to the vet less than a week ago, and the vet said she was healthy.

Also, it was not a hairball. It was clearish-yellow vomit.

Ah i know exactly why. (Trust me I have 4 cats that do the same thing). Her food is probably the reason. The strange walking is due to her gagging which cuts off air which causes loss of balance. Try switching to a different food and wait about a month for results. If none occur take her to the vet.

The yellowish color of the vomit is bile. Animals will throw this up when their stomachs are empty. If she had food in her stomach you probably would have noticed some food pieces or it would have been a different color. Has she been eating normally? This can also be a sign of worms. As for the walking problem that could be just because she was in the process of trying to vomit. Just because you saw the vet less than a week ago and they told you she was healthy doesn't mean she couldn't have developed a problem since then. Keep an eye on her and if it gets worse or happens again definitely call your vet to bring her in.

It was not the food. If it was food, there would have been food present in the vomit, but you said clear/yellow, which means it was just bile. This comes from an empty stomach. Well, actually bile is produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder, but when an animal empty stomach vomits, the contractions in the abs cause the vomit to contain bile.

When she acted like she could barely walk, i'm assuming you meant that she had her legs crouched and her back slightly arched and was gagging and kind of rocking forward. This is what cats do before they vomit.

I do not know why your cat vomited, but most likely it was not a recurring problem. Keep an eye on her. If she vomits again, I would suggest taking her to the vet, otherwise do not worry. Just like humans, ofter if you feel sick and vomit, it makes you feel much better. She could have done something as simple as eaten a bug and you jsut didn't notice it in the vomit. If she keeps vomiting, though, she can become dehydrated and you should see a vet immediately.

Hope this helps!

Your kitty has an empty tummy. Food will resolve this issue. Are you feeding your cat a good quality dry food? I feed my cats a high quality dry cat food that is left out for them to munch on at their convenience, and I also supplement their diet with a half can of meat type food about every other day. I've found that if I don't feed them the canned food ... they will wait and then vomit, indicating to me that they want the canned food. Usually after I feed the canned food, the vomiting stops.

Meat is an essential supplement to a cat's diet. I make sure they get some regularly. There is a certain enzyme and protein in meat that they cannot get in dry foods.

I'd check with my vet if the vomiting continues. Otherwise, it's probably nothing to be concerned about.

Sounds like hairball to me. She probably just didn't get it up. My guess is that she is going to get sick again until it comes up.

If she stops eating, drinking, and using the litterbox then you need to contact the vet to make sure that she doesn't have some sort of blockage.

Hairball?

I have known several people with cats that have thrown up at least once every day. I don't know why they do it. That's one of the reasons I don't have a cat. That and hairballs and claws.

She ate something foreign. The same thing happened to my cat (after I think she ate some fiberglass). She threw up alot of this bright orange spew, and she collapsed afterward, but then she was fine. If it happens again, try to get her to drink some water (she might be collapsing because she's dehydrated from throwing up) - but she'll be okay.

somties our cat throws up if it eats too much or too fast, or the food may not be right for her. Try changing her food and giving her less amounts at a time.
