yes i contacted smith and wesson and talked them about a custom 5 inch barrel. chamfering the chambers and putting a really nice touch on which would be a smooth cylinder on it..nice hugh...going to try some one handed shots out of it.

I've fired the long barreled version, and it's a real Mutha!
I've fired .44 Magnums in Combat competition over the years with loads from semi-wadcutters to full-house hollow points, and would never even CONSIDER doing this with a .500 S&W "artillery piece".
I have a sneaking suspicion that the .500 S&W Magnum is going to be like the .44 Magnum was in the early '70's, with all the "Dirty Harry" hype; a lot of "tough guys" are going to buy them, shoot 'em just once, and either toss 'em in a drawer, or try to sell 'em again. The only purpose I can see for this hand-held anti-tank gun is for big game hunting. NOBODY I know would consider using it for punching paper, especially with the astronomical price of its' ammo!

My roommate has both versions of the S&W 500. I prefer to shoot the shorter barrel. I love the new Winchester load thats what we fire out of it. This gun is definetely on my list to purchase in the next year. FYI It'll blow a hole clean through a dumptruck bed and out the other side.

Anything from S&W is good the recoil is punishing and hard on the hand ,wrist and elbow as a defence weapon second shot line up may be a problem so you better get them on the first shot.
