I've just asked my son lan_dee_ray and he says that they are ok if you are just learning about the odds but to use one to your advantage in a real cash game IS cheating and takes the challenge out of it.

Technically no, but the motivation for there use is questionable.
You can't use one on a live table so you can't develop your game skills fully. They work out odds but not strategy, so during a tournament they may not be as useful as you'd like. Others run two or more computers at a time to try to 'know' likely other players hands on the same table, and/or 'force Raise', which is cheating but in a cash game you can always cash-out if you have doubts.
Ultimately then, except on some online tables, what good is it going to do you? You going to make a living from it? So why isn't the World and his dog already at that?
Just enjoy your game, that's what it's there for.

If it is against the terms & conditions of the gaming site/casino, then it is cheating.
However, I wouldn't view it in the same way as marking cards, etc. because you're dealing with incomplete information. It can calculate odds vs. a certain hand or a range of hands, but the output is only as good as your ability to put people on an accurate range of hands.
My advice would be to not bother and study and work on your game. Most of the math necessary for poker is not overly complicated, and with study and experience it will become more obvious to you.

Why bother with a calculator? If you've played the game before then you know the odds what will or wont probably happen but you play on instinct and feelings, more exciting way to play. You never know what the other persons got are they bluffing?

Poker odds calculators don't really help you during a game. They are more about learning how different hands match up against each other. I would definitely not consider them cheating.

I cant play poker. But I reckon it is. It would take out the point, he suspense. The whole point is to imagine what the odds are and hope you get it right. It would stop the adrenalin. Then again, it might take the fun out of gambling, and that could be a good thing!
