What do you think of the Thenardier family of the book and musical Les Miserables? Do you think they are nastier in the book or musical? I myself found them hilarious in the play and horribly mean in the book.

I agree. I found them funny in the play, and practically evil in the book. But yeah, they were used as comic relief in the musical, but Victor Hugo wanted to expose the world for what it was, so he didn't give everyone a comic relief.

They were used as comic relief in the musical. It worked to lighten the mood and make them less threatening to the theater audience.

They are disgusting. Especially in the musical. But the musical itself is great.

They were considered antagonists, but did not seem all that threatening in nature. I found it comparable to Fagin from "Oliver!"
