It depends on what you're calling a tool. Some would require amortization over 3 to 5 years. cheap and disposable tools can be expensed in one year.

Only if you purchased them yourself, and the company that you work for will not provide them to you or you are self employed.You can also deduct the cost of uniforms if you paid for them.
