I don't know what the deal is, every time I do anything that has to do with my credit, everywhere I go, everyone thinks that I am my sister. Our social security numbers are just 1 digit off, and we have the same last name, but I would think they would still know we're 2 different people. How do I go about letting everyone know that I am NOT my sister?

first get a copy of your credit report at: www.annualcreditreport.com

This is the ONLY site set up by the US Government as mandated by law. The site is free and your report will remain available via comput for 30 days. One canot change accurate factual information. However, before u can attempt to change innacurate information, first u must know what it is u wish to change. You can get a copy for free every 12 months from each of the three credit reporting agencies...Experian,...Equifax and TransUnion....good luck

I guess I'm confused. Why do you think it's your responsibility that your credit report is correct?

The law says that credit reporting agencies are responsible for keeping your records accurate. If not, they have to quickly fix them, and they are responsible for any damages that their goof up has caused.

So quit letting them off the hook! Read the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Monitor your credit reports, and dispute every single item that doesn't belong. If they don't fix the problem within 30 days, you can sue them for $1000 in small claims court.

Now, I will bet that after their first lost lawsuit they will certainly keep better track of your records.

Write all three credit bureaus (Equifax, TansUnion and Experian) a letter stating your problem. If you have a copy of your report, you might want to send them a copy of the pages where the error is showing up. They have 30 days to correct your report and provide you with a new one (for free) that proves that the items have been addressed and removed.
I hope that helps!
