It wouldn't. That's why I don't understand why people get so worked up about it.

For starters, it would make me a bit less cynical about countries that allow religion to dictate the rules (say, the US or Brazil, where I'm from). Next, it'd brighten up my day some, knowing that I might not get totally f**ked one day should I decide to marry some dude. Then, I'd cry, desperate at the fact that we're still discussing marriage as if there were any qualities to it, as if people that marry are somehow superior to the rest of us. It's an absolutely corrupt, inefficient, enslaving institution, one we'd do well to leave behind.

Absolutely nothing. Except (i would be going to so many weddings!) It would bring me joy to watch other people being as happy as I am allowed to be (being married in August to a man). There is nothing that should keep gay couples from experiences the joys of that special day.
The joy of seeing people being treated with dignity and respect. The joy of seeing our society standing up for what is good in the world. Not being afraid of what is different.
How can anyone argue that the world would be worse with more loving couples and families in it?

It would Guarantee to myself and my partner, the approximately 1,138 rights, benefits and protections afforded to Opposite sex marriages!
It would mean a more protected future for OUR son.
It would mean the right to care for my partner and for her to care for me when we get older and if we need to reside in any kind of long-term care facility.
It would mean, heaven forbid, that if anything were to happen to either of us, our extended families would have no better chance of contesting our wills as any other LEGALLY married couple.
It would mean financial and legal PEACE OF MIND!
This is LEGAL marriage we're talking about...NOT RELIGIOUS.
If any specific church or religion does not wish to sanctify our unions, no one, and I mean NO ONE will attempt to force them to do so!
Please stop confusing LEGAL marriage with Religious marriage.
Why do so many continuously confuse the two?
Why do so many insist that our country is in anyway a Religious Theocracy? It's NOT!
Keep YOUR religion OUT of MY Government, and I promise I'll do the same for you!

I would be able to get married, and not have to introduce the woman I love as my "girlfriend" because that sounds so seventh grade. I find it difficult to believe that grown, consenting adults should be condemned to live without the basic right of marriage simply because someone else's "god" says it's wrong. I don't want to believe in your god, and we live in a free country, so I don't have to. What about protection of rights? Don't tell me it's your right to impose your god on me and infringe on my rights of marriage. It doesn't work like that.

It would give the same legal and social status to our relationship as a straight marriage gets.

OMG! If gays can marry I am sure my husband will run off with another man. I will be left alone and destitute. People will start marrying donkeys. Who knows what else will happen????
Ok, I am being sarcastic. It would have no effect on my life at all, other than I would have to start buying wedding presents for my gay friends.

As an ordained minister, I might do a few more gay weddings.
As more people would qualify for spousal employment benefits, it might invigorate the debate about Universal Insurance and health care in the US, which would be a good thing.
It might also cause a backlash...which would be sad, frustrating, etc.

It's against ALLAH. Marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman, not two men or two women. How would it affect my life? I wouldn't want my kids going to the same school as a kid of gay parents. That's just wrong.

I wouldn't have to explain to my kids why, in our "free society" our gay friends and family are not allowed to legally marry the person they love.
