I read somewhere that in France to be elected as president the candidate must have completed his army duty, is this correct?

I am always surprised to see how ignorance continues to breed in regards to France's military. I hope at least 50% of you were being sarcastic. France among many European nations still have a mandatory service requirement for their military or some other service to the government. Germany also has a compulsory service law to. As for France's military they sponsor advanced mirage fighter craft as well as joint European fighters. They have a rapid deployment airdivision, a carrier group and naval units etc. France has a very adept military, is it any wonder we always ask for France's support before launching our major military operations/

Does France still have a military?

I can't honestly say that I have any idea what the answer to your question is, but if it's true, both soldiers would be running for president. Then who would guard the cheese?

Seriously, I don't know. The jokes are too hard to pass up on, but I respect all of our allies soldiers. It isn't their fault that the current president sucked face with Arafat and Saddam.

Yep. That is why they send the Foreign legion for the dirty work so not involve the conscripts. However i have heard that they are doing away with the whole program.
