I think many people against gay marriage are afraid that if gay marriage is legalized either themselves or their spouse will run off with a member of the same sex. That is the only possible reason I can see why they would fear it breaking up their marriage. They alway say they are against gay marriage to protect marriage so they must be very insecure.

There are a number of people posting who also seem to feel the need to be protected from being allowed to marry animals. I would think it would be the animals that would need to be protected. I don't think most animals would be able to give consent anyway. So I think the fear some conservative christians have that if gay marriage is legalized that they will be tempted to marry their pet dog is a red herring.

Because Christians are a diverse group. Anyone can call themselves a Christian for one thing. any Christians have not even read the majority of the bible and only know what they are taught, usually by other Christians who also haven't read the majority of the bible. People on a whole are flawed and the only way the can be "fixed" is through Christ's love. We are all put here to love others and not to judge or harm others. Some Christians are overly legalistic but that is not the teaching for Jesus. The two greatest commandments are to love God and love our neighbors. I'm not sure how a christian could believe that gay marriage is alright in the eyes of God, but I can see how they believe (like me) that it's not our place to tell others how they MUST live thier lives. We can only tell them why we don't agree IN A RESPECTFUL WAY, show them love and compassion, and move on and let each person make thier own choices.

I think that some people dislike the idea of gay marriage because they believe that this is a "wedge" issue designed to open the way for more radical changes in the future. In other words, if you give the liberals an inch, then many people believe they will probably take a mile.

If this seems paranoid, keep in mind that comments from at least some gay advocates, quoted in self-proclaimed "gay"media outlets, have suggested that "marriage" is only a side issue -- what they are really after, according to them, is to redefine marriage so much that it disappears from the law altogether as being something so vague that it eludes any attempt to define it legally.

In countries that have adopted gay marriage, like Holland, most gay couples do not get married at all, and the many of the ones that took advantage of the new law got divorced a few years later, so it makes you wonder why gay people think that getting the legal right to marry is so important anyway -- they are fighting for a right that they don't really want to use. It makes people assume that gay marriage supporters have ulterior motives.

For me, and how it is rationalized under law, gay marriage, and the decision to not legalize it, has nothing to do with religion. Marriage is not a Constitutional right and the various states have every right to make laws as they rationally see fit to promote certain ideals or support their society; they do not need evidence to support this as long as the law rationally relates to the desired outcome (and it isn't discriminatory because all sexes can get married - not being discriminatory, just stating facts). For courts to make it a greater right then it is is a shame.

I do agree people should be free to live there lives as they choose, and that is why I don't have a problem with gay people.

IF YOU WOULD READ ROMANS 1: 18-32 AND LEVITICUS 20: 13 YOU WOULDN'T BE ASKING THIS QUESTION. You are speaking of laws of man, who makes up the rules or changes them anytime they want something their own way. God's Law for man cannot and will not ever change. Homosexuality goes against God's law. Everyone knows that....some people just don't care about God's Law--they want it their way or not at all.

I'm sorry, that's like saying lets not have any rules for in the end God will deal with all those that sinned. It is true gay marriages will never be accepted by God, just like the sinner that does not repent and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior will also be dealt with. That does not mean we should turn away and let it happen. It is our responsibility as Christians to share the light if you do not receive it that's on you, but if I don't try to show you that's on me. I hope one day you too will see the light, and you will then truly understand my words.

Ummmm...check your sources, only in a couple states would a gay marriage be valid! To answer your question, the reason Christians are against it, is because it is such a perversion of the way God made the amazing sexual relationship to be and allowing it outright would quickly create an even more lost and confused society!

Because we are opposed to see the culture that we are living in further corrupted. We are all going to die. Do you think that we shouldn't try to stop people from murdering?

Our culture is based on the cultural values of the group. Homosexuals are trying to change those values, thereby making homosexuality acceptable. Most people are opposed to homosexuality, prostitution and illegal drugs. Some people are for these things, and would like to have them considered legitimate. By the same token, abortion was opposed by most people a few years ago. The efforts of the media, and others forces, have succeeded in convincing about half of the population that killing your unborn baby is now acceptable.

We are in a culture war. The media are in the forefront of the assault on our common culture. Their tactics include "multiculturalism" and promoting "diversity". Some of us, your author included, have dug our heels in, and are resisting this onslaught.

I see nothing wrong with gay marriage. I would hope that my God would acknowledge it - just as I do. If two people feel that they love each other enough that they want to join together for the rest of their lives, let them.

I'm not against it. I don't believe marriage is a religious issue, its a legal one. I think if 2 people are willing to make a committed life together then let them. God didn't create marriage, man did as a bartering system, so who cares.

I am a Christian and I agree with you. I fail to see how gay marriage has anything to do with other Christians. The government does not speak for God, so what does it matter if gay people get married. We will not be accountable for it to Him, only the individuals involved. Abortion is legal as well as many other sinful things. Christians need to realize, we are not here to control and regulate this world, we are just residents here, we are citizens of heaven.
