I mean, no one's asking you guys to marry them in your churches. If a church wants to do a holy ceremony that's up to them individually.
But, these people that want to get married are already commited to each other. They just want the same rights as any other American couple, and it is religious discrimination not to let them have them.
Also, there is a lot of evidence that it would be good for society. Gay men could look forward to getting married when they got older if they wanted to. Marraige has been shown in general to decrease crime by getting young men off the street. As an American citizen, it is maddening to me to see this injustice, which I believe is no different than when Afro-Americans could not use the same water fountains as whites, or sit on the same part of the bus.
I understand you do not support it. But why do you feel you have the right to control how people live their lives?

El P, it's no wonder you don't support gay marraige if you compare it to bestiality. You must be incapable of looking at these people as human.

Also, scripture does not answer this question. This country's laws should not be based on scripture, but on freedom and justice, reguardless of religion. I'm not saying you have to like gay people, but we do not live in a free country at the moment because we are not free to live our lives.
Gay people do not harm anyone. I am married and do not feel threatened by them getting married at all. If anything it would make me feel less alone in a country where marraiges are happening less and less.

My big question is.....Whatever happened to seperation of Church and State?
How is Gay marraige not legal yet when it seems that the religious groups are the only ones holding it back?

As a born-again Christian man, I oppose homosexual marriage for three reasons:
1, Because God has specifically proscribed the practice of homosexuality;
2, Because it is anything other than one man and one woman;
3, Because it is corrosive to the moral system upon which our civilization is founded. Look what happened to the Romans when they became decadent and hedonistic.
However, as an American I must, and I do, advocate civil unions with the same legal rights as marriages.

it puts an approval on a lifestyle that goes against God's divine purpose. I will always support those politicians who support my belief system. God said:
24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

I think there are already laws in place to support people living together and the equitable distribution of assets. I am unsure of how to handle the insurance issue without legally creating a marriage. I oppose a marriage being between anyone other than one man and one woman for hte reasons above. Most people I know living together form small companies or corporations and take care of the insurance matter that way.

A lot of people see it as a "choice" of life instead of a naturally occurring phenomenon. They think since it's a choice the people could just "choose" to be straight and marry someone of the opposite sex. It's obviously not that way, but they refuse to see it any other way. That's why there are all those Christian "changing camps" where people go to become heterosexual through the power of Jesus, which basically just teaches them amazing repression techniques.
And since America has a majority Christian population and a government run by the majority, the rights are revoked. Beware the power of stupid people in large numbers.

Gary - most people in the world are NOT interested in inheriting anything from your god, and that wasn't the subject of the question anyway.
Your reply is just a demonstration of blind hate caused by blind faith.
People like you - and Reeann - are enemies of religious freedom. It's that simple. You want to restrict others based on your religious beliefs.

Homosexuality is a sin, no more and no less. It is no different than a man cheating on his wife or telling a lie or murder, they are all sins in Gods eyes and in a Christians eyes. We all sin in some way, I sin more times than I would like to tell.
I will not ask you to say that my sin should be legal. I don't think you would ask for murder to be legal, or pedophilia to be legal. You see it as their choice and in some ways it is. You can choose to live in open sin and turn your back on God by telling lies to everyone you see. I hope you don't wish that to be legalized so you can scam people.
No matter how much you accept something, if God said it was a sin it is still a sin. I don't judge people who are homosexual or those that cheat on their wives. I have my own sins to repent of and I won't them to have that same chance.
I will make you a promise, you don't ask me to make this sin legal and turn from God and I will not ask you to make my sin legal.
When all is said on issues about homosexuality and abortion and pedophilia and killing the elderly and other sins, God will still be right and many men will be wrong.

It's not just what you call Christian Conservatives, it's TRUE Christians in general.
Read 1 Cor. 6:9,10. There it speaks of things that are not approved of by God and ones who practice such things (men who lie with men) will not inherit God's Kingdom.
So it's frowned upon in the Christian society because it's frowned upon by God.
No one has the right to control how people live their lives but God himself, and he chooses not to. He has given us the gift of free will. But he also gives us laws and principals in the Bible to live our lives by.
And the reference to African Americans and the racism that once (and still does) affect the society today, it totally irrelevant. No one asked us if we wanted to be persecuted for being of a certain race. Being black does not go against anything the bible teaches, whereas, choosing to be gay, does.
So read your bible, and pray on the matter!

I am Christian but I see the Christian Conservative movement no differently than Islamic fundamentalists. People, who have perverted Jesus message of love, compassion, and forgiveness into an intolerant, hate filled rhetoric.
I have no problem with same sex marriage, I am not gay but why should they be discriminated against?

If gay marriage is to be acceptable then what else should we start to permit? Multiple husbands or wives, incest, animals? I love my dog, but he will never be more then a friend.
If I could have my dog as my spouse however, I could save a fortune in vet bills through company insurance.
If people want this for themselves that does not bother me, But it makes me sick when they want to adopt a baby to be a family. If you can't have one with your mate, then you shouldn't be able to bring one into the situation.
I take it that you would think that incest is OK then. Who is the sick one here. Liberal
Marriages are declining because of the liberal view that people place on the institution. I have been married for 25 yrs. You get out of it what you put into it. But when people think that the institution is going by the way side and you can get married to anybody, its no wonder the respect is going away from it.
