unfortunately both...but mostly because of his race......he is a very good HW and has alot of skill for a 7 foot boxer. Look, Im not going to lie, many american fans hate him becuase of his race. Many answerers on this forum hate him becuase of his race, they just wont admit it. I like him alot and think he is the #2 hw. ( Behind klitschko).

I don't think it's a race thing. I like the Klitschko brothers, I actually had tickets to see Vitali until he retired. But Valuev just seems too much like a freak of nature rather than a fighter. If there was a 7' heavyweight division for him to be a part of, it would be a different matter. As it is, it's too much like watching Bugs Bunny put his arm out while Elmer Fudd flails away.

I for one think it is at least mildly entertaining to watch Valuev fight. Although, I can definitely see where people are coming from who are disgusted with the heavyweight division in general. I look at it from a relative viewpoint. It's still fun to see the matchups and get behind a fighter. Even though most of them are not highly skilled, they are still impressive in regards to their size and strength. Klitschko for example delivers very fast and very powerful punches. Valuev of course has his size. Peter has some kind of raw natural strength and fighting ability along with some improving boxing skills.
The recent bouts of these fighters have been entertaining, but if you're looking for great boxers, you're looking in the wrong place no matter what nationality they are.

So far everyone hits the nail on the head. He does not apear to be talented other than being huge. Granted that overcomes skill in the sport. as a fan you would like to see some skill in the particular sport and the heavy weight division overall appears to be lacking talent and skill. Pound for pound everyone of the current heavywieght champs would not be in the top 20 or 30 of the current fighters.

I dont know if its a race thing or anti russian but the Russians taking over the heavy weights will be good in the long run. Valuev is talented he is not akward like klithko and I believe he could beat the klitchko brothers.
John c says "hes a crapy boxer and only good for his size" hell son you just described every athlete who plays basketball. You dont need talent in that sport just hight eg. yao ming

I don't hate him but he appears to be the least skilled of the heavyweight champs, although I think he could beat Shannon Briggs easily. If he fights a few good fighters out there like Klitchko than I will gladly give him credit. Beating up on people like Monte Barrett doesn't quite cut it in my opinion.

i'm alot like what brad says, no real heavyweights are exploding on to the scene. no one really cares if white is the color of a champ. if you are american, you would like to see an american champ by most public opinion and i somewhat agree. all the exciting mike tyson's, holyfield's, lewis's, and other greats of our time are gone or washed up trying to make a last blundered run for glory and it's just not popping right now. i mean come on, once you've danced with the stars it's just not right to make a run at the title. do you think ali would have danced like a fool and then tried to come out of retirement for one last run.

I dont think anyone hates him i would say there would be quite a few who dont really like the way he fights or who he fights, he has fought 46 fights and still hasnt got 1 name on his record that is worthy of fighting against a Heavyweight champion, i dont know whether this is down to his management team or what but people are not going to respect a 7ft champion if he doesnt actually fight anyone that is any good, he will get my respect when he either beats Wladamir Klitshcko who is i would say the best Heavyweight out there at the minute or if he unifys the titles but i dont really see this happening, i think he is quite happy to go on fighting no-hopers and remaining undefeated until his retirement, which at his age probably cant be that far away.

I think it's more because he looks like a half-shaved Sasquatch. People tend to think of him as a big, lumbering idiot. He needs better promotion with more exposure. Maybe some interviews where some personality can come out. Or possibly do some endorsement ads for some product where he could poke fun at himself.

Respect would be a better word. The belts need to be unified. The color of the skin should not matter. The fighters ablility against the best competition should be the measuring stick.
