God forbid we all be equal.
Seriously, they are not hurting anyone by getting married. If you don't like gay marriage, then don't marry someone of the same sex!

Last you checked, sweetheart? When was that, like when "colored people" could not enter places or signs such as "No Irish need to apply" were posted around? I am sorry to inform you that the United States of America has never provided equal rights for everyone. (That 's just the sweet American dream, the dear Hollywood) (Now that I mentioned Hollywood, you might want to know that Best Director has never been awarded to a woman, 92.8 % of the writing awards have gone to men and only 5.5% of the acting awards have gone to people of color. Just as a demonstration of equality.)
As of this specific issue, first of all I must say that I completely agree with you. Homosexuals should ideally have all the rights that heterosexuals do, and a legal marriage is certainly one of these. However, the government is not secular. It just does not draw the line between state and religion - even the dollar says "in god we trust". In this case, marriage is taken as a religious issue and not a legal one as it should be. I think this problem will keep lingering this way for a good while- after all, there is a government out there which is manipulating people with the exaggerated fear of a religion.

This is not quite true. The legal activists I have spoken with are actually divided between those who just want rights and be done with it and those who want the label of marriage as well. Part of the resistance from conservatives is that label, yet they support civil unions. Yet the portion of activists who want the marriage label slow down the process by fighting for more than what current attitudes are willing to allow. They are shooting themselves in the foot and delaying rights for people they supposedly fight for. I spoke with a person representing a gay rights group out of Boston and he was adamant that "just" giving civil unions was an "insult." Other gay people I know could care less, they want the rights.

The drive of fundamentalism is to turn this country into a theocracy based on their own perceptions of religion and so forth. Many of them are so wrapped up with the idea of a "rapture" that some are actually trying to bring Armageddon about themselves. You're not going to get through to them... you're more likely to get your wall to share a little trip through Shakespearean dialogue than reason with them. The "ick" factor is a huge problem for many people, their ego gets in the way in various ways and so on.
Psychologically speaking... the more a collective group of a particular set of ideas DENIES a certain set of characteristics or behaviors (such as sexual repression within various religious organizations) the more focused on that characteristic or behavior the mind becomes.

No such thing as true equal rights and all this talk about gays all the time like we have no better things to worry about.
marriage is a man & woman union just let us hetros have that.
A marriage cannot be a husband and husband or wife and wife, it is not what marriage naturally is as a hetrosexual union.
Why can't gays just have a homosexual civic union which is what it is.
I do not care if it sounds un-PC and against the loony dictates of the liberal thought police but I still believe in a free say.

Well you see just about any Bible that you read condems homosexuality, incest, sleeping with your brothers wife and probably a lot more things then I can name. God made Man and Woman, so that they could go forth and produce offspring, tell me how do homosexuals pro-create? Morally we are teaching our children that it is "ok to be gay", something that I fully dis agree with! Then we have the genetic excuse for homosexualtiy, which I say yes it can be in the genes, 501 buttonflys that is, the type of sex you like is exactly that a choice, a preference or a fettish, nothing genetic about that. I do believe in homosexual conditioning, where a parent can raise to child to act as if they are the opposite sex of what they really are (eg; if I raised my daughter to act, dress and think like a guy, I would expect her to be a lesbian) because she was conditioned to believe she was a boy, so therefore her preferance of sexual partner would most likely be a woman. We live in a society where NO ONE accepts, or admitts that we/they are responsiable for our actions, besides homosexuality went out with the Greek empire, we just have some people trying to revive it. Why not ask most homosexuals if they were ever raped, abused, mistreated, or neglected by the opposite sex, I bet most of them would say yes or nothing at all. I do not have anything against being gay, I have no right to judge anyone, but I know that I do not want my children thinking that it is OK to be this way.

"Homosexual couples should not be allowed to marry."
In place of the word "homosexual," insert the word "black" or "Jewish" or "Christian". Now how does it read? Hmmm...
In America, we as a society have decided that it is wrong to offer certain rights to a group and deny those same rights to another group, as long as what both groups are doing is within the law.
Since sex between consenting ADULTS is not illegal, there is no reason to deny those adults the rights, privileges and responsibilities of marriage, as long as they are not married to others.
For those who raise the "child molestation" or "bestiality" red herrings, those acts continue to be illegal.
Why shouldn't lesbians and gays be able to suffer in marriage and divorce the same way straights do?

It would be a step back in rights. Gays have all the rights non gays have you have been told wrong. It is all in the laws now.
This is a fight over the word married. To change it from a man and a woman to any thing you wish. The base of how we are framed as a socialite in marriages and family. this is what the fight is over not God.
By the way No one has the right to marry any way. If it was a right you would not need a license. In any state you must go to the government and ask them if you can marry.

I agree. Greencreeper, can't you see the obvious difference that a homosexual couple is comprised of two consenting adults rather than a victim and an attacker. There is a huge one, really.

They have the same rights to marry as everyone else. Every gay guy is free to marry any woman he chooses and vice versa. If it's JUST about benefits, then they homosexuals should get together and decide which lesbian marries which gay guy and, ta da!, benefits problem solved.
And you can leave whatever you want to whomever you want when you die. What survivorship issue?
The issue isn't about health insurance and taxes though. It's about forcing society to recognize their living arrangement as valid.

"This has nothing to do with religion."
Then my dear, you are in the wrong section and barking up the wrong tree.
Our forefathers that came over to this country would be sickened by your argument.
