Well if you only want a product from Microsoft then I suggest:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Windows Defender

I hope this helps you....

There are much better programmes out there but you specifically requested Microsoft.

it's free and safe to download

Go to http://download.com and get the program ccleaner. It is free and includes not only a good registry program (in the Issues section of the program) but a good disk cleaner and other nice features. It is not "Microsoft", but it does a good job.

The other alternative is to go back to a restore point from before the problems began. The registry is part of what is saved in a restore point. So going back to an earlier one should find most registry issues.

ok. not a microsft program, but it is a GREAT registry repair tool.
try registry clean expert free to try from http://registry-clean.net
the program will keep prompting you to register it and until you do it will only fix around ten errors per san and fix, so if money is as tight as you say then you will just have to repeat the scan and clean several time (as many as it takes to get your registry cleaned).
Remeber though if you are missing entries in your system registry then that could mean your system has either got a malware infection or by a process of user error files may have been deleted and the registry has removed the entries.
so go to htp://housecall.trendmicro.com and allow it to scan your computer do not browse away from the scan or close the scan window once started, allow the scan to complete then clean what is cleanable and delete the uncleanable.

now you need to find the discs for your computer system and hardware, you may need to insert the discs to repair your computer if as you claim files have been removed not just from the registry but from your computer (no repair tool can fix your computers registry if the files no longer exist on your computers hard drives.
if you folow the steps above and you know what programs are needed (what discs) to get to the missing files and or folders.

good luck and i hope that helps.
i nearly forgot, a little utility you should have and use at least once a week is adaware free version available from http://www.lavasoft.com
also consider the free trial of pc-cillin internet security 2007 from www.trendmicro.com the full licenced version after the trial is £40 approx per year very good value. if you use all of those programs at least once a week your system should be kept in perfect health. Speaking personally i use them all and my system has never had a problem. the only errords my scan finds are the cookies from websites i visit.
as for the lavasoft uility that is used to mainly (in my case) clean up the MRU lists on y computer. although it can catch cokies that trend may have missed or that i left alone and trend did not clean.
and if the security suite is set to maximum your computer is well hardened to intrusion attempts, though like any firewall you will need to configure to get the best out of it for your needs. by default you will need to manually add your local computers access to your computer (your lan) if you need to ort if you have more than one computer at home for example.
and as for your wife taking all your money, grab your balls back from her and buy some decent computer defence tools, it will be an investment. not as she may see it as a waste of money.

you sound so damn henpecked. love your wife by all means and share your funds, but having her control every penny that is just not smart.

get some brains, and get your system properly secured.
when you think your system is secure go to http://www.grc.com and run shields up. you are aiming to get a true stealth status, anything less than true stealth and then you need to fix the problems in your firewall and then repeat the scans. until you do get true stealth status, and do not make the mistake of blocking just the grc website etc, you would need to block all ip addresses as default but allow your lan requires two or more entrie for your firewall to get the best results.

good luck.

Do a search for a piece of software from Microsoft called regcheck.exe . Otherwise, there's a piece of software called Registry Mechanic. You should be able to find the crack for it using www.astalavista.box.sk but I would seriously suggest you have some decent AV software before geting it.

Try www.prevx.com - it is AV, firewall and Malware/Spyware protection in one and costs £14.50 GBP per annum. Beats the crap out of Norton. :)

check out "system mechanic" by Iolo... it's awesome and free for 30 days ... which is enough to sort your problems... and it's cheap to buy afterwards if you need.

Alternatively .. go to "majorgeeks.com" and search all the good stuff there!!
