I'm not atheist, but more so agnostic. I think all religions express intolerance of other religions. Human beings/societys/religions are inherently ethnocentric. Everyone believes he/she is right and all others are wrong. This isn't a bad thing, it's just the way the world works. It's not just Christians though. Some atheists are intolerant, so are some Muslims, so are alot of people. I'm assuming your are Christian, maybe not, but either way, if you aren't hateful or intolerant, then good. It's a stereotype and generalization created for many reasons. Basically, personal experiences lead people to this belief.

Ok Im not even atheist and I can see that... All the horrible comments I have seen (and heard) christians make over the years about women who get abortions, homosexuals, bisexuals, muslims, animals like wolves, atheists, agnostics, non-believers, every other religious group, science and scientists, etc etc the list goes on.. Obviously not ALL Christians are like that but a very large majority of them are, and they loudly proclaim their hatred and intolerance for anyone who doesnt agree with their beliefs.
There is no "believe" about it I have seen and experienced religious bigotry it happens everyday, everywhere in the world and not just on the part of Christianity... almost every religious/social group is guilty of having factions of bigots..
In case you dont know what bigotry means....
A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles, or identities differing from his or her own.

Atheists don't believe this of Christians in general; there are specific cases (some have shown up in this forum) where such intolerance has been demonstrated in the question or answer. Atheists simply believe that all Christians are deluded; the notion that god created Jesus for the purpose of pestering god to remit sins is silly.

i do not hate xians, i'm purely no longer overly prepared on what xianity stands for. which isn't what you imagine it stands for it is a in a lot of cases requested question you recognize an person-friendly search for would have sufficed. I also do not get why it is the type of massive secret maximum human beings on the internet are from the U. S. or Europe that are both heavily xianised countries maximum atheists are from those countries The muslims do not fare to correctly both although. we are no longer prepared on religions that imagine they have a appropriate to emphasise us to follow their beliefs Take chiefred for instance - once you examine his answer are you able to understand why there will be an project with some xians?

It is not just Atheists who believe this......
Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Pagans also frequently believe this.
The reason for this is that many Christians ARE filled with intolerance, which, if left unchecked, becomes hatred.
While this is a problem that only affects a small percentage of Christians in America in reality, most of that small percentage seems to frequent the R&S section of Yahoo Answers.
What occurs to me, most frequently, is that many Christians compare non-Christians to themselves by a Christian set of standards, and, when they come up lacking, as they will, of course, denounce them as "evil, immoral, and unrighteous".
This is, oddly, the apple comparing itself to the orange, and then denouncing all "citrus" as evil!! Furthermore, these apples try to construct legislation prohibiting all citrus!
Namaste,

Mostly because of the public behavior of the most vocal of the Christians.
I'm quite sure that there are well-behaved moral Christians, but you'd never know it from the behavior of the Christians here, would you?

Are you trying to insinuate that they're not? Check out the Christian answers to this question:

Please don't try to argue that many Christians out there aren't filled with hate and intolerance for people who do not follow Christianity. No, it's not all Christians, but the ones who do fall into that definition are extremely vocal and offensive.

Because they are being deceptive. They are not truly atheists, at least not first and foremost. Their primary agenda isn't atheism - it's anti-christianism. Big difference.
Perhaps if they would stop mis-representing themselves here the confusion could be cleared up?

Theists, especially christians, try to control and restrict us based on their views. If all christians stop crusading against science, culture, art, sex and sexuality, religious freedom and such, and stop telling everybody else they're going to be tortured throughout eternity unless they join you, I assure you that you won't encounter nearly as much hostility.
Just reading the replies so far demonstrates my point.
