Jesus preached salvation, something he tried to convince everyone that they needed.

"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect."

That's impossible to achieve, so everybody needs salvation. Right?

But maybe that was the set up. Jesus set it up so no one could achieve the stated goal.

Was Jesus convincing people they needed salvation so they would buy into his way of thinking?

What if he was selling something that nobody needs, just like pet rocks?

What if there is no need of salvation?

the church sells afterlife insurance, which is the perfect scam. Everybody thinks you need is and nobody can prove that you don't

Good question.

You are right. It is impossible to be perfect like God is perfect. Jesus didn't set up the need for salvation, but you need to look further back into the Old Testament. Check out when God gave Moses the 10 Commandments on Mt. Sinai. These are the Commandments of Moral perfection. We have all broken these commandments all the time in either word, thought, or deed. These commandments are written on your heart so that you are without excuse on Judgment Day. You know it's wrong to lie, hate, murder, steal, etc. Therefore, everyone needs a Savior. And God is so good and gracious that He provided a Savior in Jesus Christ.

If there is no need of salvation than Jesus would have never died and resurrected on the third day.

Jesus was trying to tell the people of that time the way to return back home (Heaven). If you like it here on Earth and want to keep returning here, then there really is no need for "salvation".

Just because a goal is impossible doesn't mean that one shouldn't strive to achieve it.

Some could say that stopping mankind from raping the earth is impossible....should people who oppose such things just simply give up because it's impossible? Or should they strive and achieve little victories which make the world a better place?

With all due respect do you even know the context of that verse?
Do you know the theme of the book from which it comes from?

Salvation is needed for heaven, but not hell. So you may have a point in your last question.

If there was no need of salvation, then you would have to live a perfect life and never die. But since you can't, there is a need. Christ knew he was going to die and why and he told his followers. Doesn't sound like he was peddling trinkets for profit to me.
