Hi, gang. Got some 35mm photo's back from the chemist. I was unable to use the flash so they are a bit dark. I want to scan them, and lighten the picture so I can see it, and print a copy. My image express doesn't work. Ideas, anyone?

P.S. Was using a 35mm (non-digital) Polaroid.

photoshop is your best bet for trying to recover the photos, but if you don;t know how to use it can be quite complicated - there are however plenty of online tutorials.

one of the most basic methods is listed here

The chemist would have printed the picture as best they could from the negative. So you may be on a loser. Scanning a bad print won't help much, I guess.

Take the negatives back and ask if they could try to produce better prints. They may be able to scan the negatives, (the best way), and improve them digitally.

I would strongly recommend Photoshop (CS or later). There's a photo adjustment feature that will allow you to adjust the shadow/highlights and another that will allow you to adjust the exposure and gamma (you will definitely need a program that has this feature particularly). The exposure adjustment allows you to get a more realistic result than other programs I've seen. Download a 30-day trial version if you don't have or can't buy a registered copy. Best of luck.

You wont get much off the poor prints with a scanner. Maybe better to scan the negs, adjust contrast and reverse to bring back to a positive print.
