Winchester Ranger SXT is good. Cor-Bon and Hornady also make some good offerings. The choices in personal defense loads these days is nearly endless.

The best choice is the one that shoots best out of your pistol; some pistols "like" certain loads better than others. Don't know why, but they do. Find one that groups the way you want it to, and practice with it. Practice, practice, practice, because the best bullet in the world does you no good if it misses.

Nothing wrong with old fashioned hardball 230 grain FMJ. I shoot them and the various manufacturers like CCI, Fiocchi, Remington, Winchester, Aguila, all shoot fine for me. For self-defense I like the CCI gold dot 230 JHP. Prior to that the Federal Hydra-shock in 230 JHP, but that design is a bit dated. The Taurus 185 JHP with the barnes bullet is a good design as well. Find one that shoots accurate and practice, thats the key.

I use Hornady HP/XTP 230gr. in my .45's for self defense.

If I am just out shooting I use Winchester white box and Remington UMC rounds because that is what the local Wal-Mart and Academy carry.
