he owes a small amount for last year. i figured if we filed this years first he could file last years and have the money to pay for last years. we got married last year so last year we were to file single and this year joint. will filing this way affect our refund? is there any way to file last year's taxes online.

No, only the current year can be filed online. For last year, you can download the forms from irs.gov - he'll have to mail them.

It shouldn't affect your refund at all. You can go to IRS.com and request 2005 tax forms. You can also go to yahoo and search tax act 2005.com. You may be able to file online, but I'm not sure. I do know there will be a penalty for filing late. I hope this helps. Good luck!!

No you can not file previous years online. They must be mailed it.
