pros: excellent college compensation, desperate military paying signing bonuses, outstanding training, opportunity to travel abroad

cons: may not get to college, desperate military paying signing bonuses, opportunity to travel to IRAQ.

Number #1 con: Having some jerk-off with little military background controlling all facets of a war with no forseeable ending...and you possibly dying for that.

Pro's: Tech training, travel, new people, retiremtn program
Con's: Ruins 1 weekend a month, two weeks a year (depending on the company you work full time for it may not be compensated well). pay kind of sucks until you get higher rank. You may not like where/when you are required to drill, (travel to drill site is usually on your dime)

The Naval reserve is a pretty good place to get training and make a few bucks on the weekends. You would probably be assigned to an outfit that has some active component to it, so they will be able to guide you on the requirements and help during the week. I spent 21 years working with the navy reserves.

If you are joining the reserves, are you willing to go to Iraq for a year or so? Are you married? Do you have Kids? What is your motivation to join the military? There are a lot of benefits to joining the military and if you are single go for it. If you are married with kids, you and your wife really need to discuss whether or not you should go. I grew up as a military brat and although my dad was gone for long periods of time, we understood how important it was that he left and we were always so proud of him.
Why the reserves and not active duty? Besides, in the Navy, unless you are a Doctor, you probably won't be going to Iraq.
