You know your roommate well so why not.No reason not to date the roommate.Living with that person allows you know him\her in & out thouroughly. You already know what your'e going to get & will have a good idea how long the date will last.
But your privacy might go for a toss if you date your roommate. Also having your "date" around you all the time isn't really such a good idea.It might even distract you from your other activities.

dont destroy a friendship.trust me.i've been threw this twice.problems will accur.if you both really feel that strong about each other then i'd advise one of you to move if possible.or try dateing for a while to see if that works but dont get in over your head sometimes it just doesnt work but you want to try to atleast stay friends if it doesnt.so talk to each other and try to make a plan.if things start going wrong break it off before it gets worse so you both can atleast stay friends.remember, every one has diffrences and sometimes they get in the way when you live with each other and sometimes they can destroy a relationship or friendship so becareful.i wish you all the luck.take care

I speak from experience. Downsides are:
- can never "get away" from them - lack of privacy
- normal dating process is screwed up because you are already living together - i.e. fewer "normal" things like first dates, finding out more about each other, etc.
- breakup - after about 4 weeks - was more than awkward. Our friendship was never the same, and it eventually ended.

There are no problems with dating. You just need to be prepared for it in case things don't work out. Other than that have fun and go for it , what have you got to lose? Except maybe a roommate and they are a dime a dozen

I think there is a different feeling of getting to know them. It is suddenly "already comfortable" and the chase is not as fun.

It wont work...don't even get yourself into that situation....You can never go back to just being roomies* ( the other person starts bringing other partners home..once you breakup...it becomes one big Uncomfortable situation) So .........Don't go there on that one* It Wont Work *~
