1: The best thing about being a police officer is being able to make a difference in someones life. Even if I can't solve every ones problem as long as i can help a few, then I have done my job and it is a satisfying feeling.

2: Are use of force policies prevent us from just tasing everyone that runs. Using a taser is a use of force and carries with it strict guidelines. We can always use one level of force higher than what the offender is using. If the subject is running away from me, then he is not using an force toward me. However there are exceptions to every rule. If the offender still poses a possible threat to others or if I can justify that if and when I catch him after chasing him that I may have to use the taser to subdue him due to previous encounters with the offender, then all is good. Besides most of us need to run anyways.

3: Advantages are the lack of a routine. I like the shift work and the knowing that one day is not going to be like the next, adventure, the rush and excitement. Disadvantages are always being in the public eye. Even off duty, if they know you are a police officer you are held to a higher standard. Always being on duty. Once your neighbors know your an officer, they are always calling you for advice.

Being a retired PO, I find that the best thing about the job, is being able to help people. I always enjoyed being "Officer Friendly" rather then the "Blue Meanie". We chase criminals, because we know that if they get away they will re-offend. As to tazing them, we only use a taser, when we are being threatened, or the situation warrants it. There are several policies governing the use of a taser. The advantages, are that it can be a very satisfying job, and a steady paycheck. The disadvantages, working shifts, missing holidays, divorce, no family life, and the possibility of not going home safe at the end of your shift.
