There are too many factors. It depends on where in the head you are hit or with what type of gun you are shot with. I saw a story on a show like Ripley's Believe It or Not that a guy got shot in the head and didn't know for days. He was hit by a ricocheting bullet and it hit him in an area of the brain that numbed the sensation completely. He even went to work before he was sent home because he was feeling dizzy. I think for the most part it's safe to say you are either killed or knocked out from the impact immediately. If not you bleed until you lose consciousness. I really don't think it's something that has been experimented with.

It would depend on what part of the head you have been shot in. My friend's step-son was shot in the head. He was in the hospital for a very long time. He now has several mental issues. So, being shot in the head is not a very pleasant ordeal if you survive.

Ask Joey Buttafucco's wife. She survived a head shot, lots of people do. Does it hurt more to cut your hand or your face.
I know head wounds bleed more to minimize infections but I can't imagine getting shot in the head wouldn't hurt - even if ever so briefly.
