To be specific, I have a father on social security. How would the military determine whether I provide more than half of the income to our household. Do they base it on whether my income is more than his? So I make $1200 a month and he has a $750 social security check. Or is it whether my providing, e.g., paying rent and other expenses, is more than his income? So I pay $800 for rent, and other bills, and he has a $750 social security check. So I provided more than half.

Usually BAH is based on the area you live in and how much it costs to live in that zip code. If I am not mistaken. If you live on post, you get no BAH. If you live off post then you do.

Talk to you personal office, they will be able to provide you with the info you need. In most cases you have to take this person on as a secondary dependent, and prove that you are providing more then 51% of over all living expenses, ie: medical, housing costs, daily living expenses, and quality of life. Your BAH will be the same whether you have one dependent or 10 dependents, it's based upon where you live, so if you live in NYC your BAH would be considerably more then if you live in Mobile Al. you know?
Talk to your Personal Office, they will be able to provide you with the info you need, since the are the ones who update your Pg 2 and DEERS info. Good luck.

BAH is a flat rate which depends on the cost of living in your area and rank. It also increases if you have dependants.. it could be one or 40... it does not increase per dependant.

If you can prove that you provide for the majority of what your father needs than you should be able to make him your dependant. It is a long process but doable. You need to go speak to JAG.
