No, but some people can be treated successfully with mediciations. The problem is that alot of schizophernics do not stay on their medications and the symptoms return.
There are levels of illness and some can live semi-normal lives if they stay on their meds. Others, wind up living in hospitals for their lives.

I am schizophrenic (DDD) and have not had an hallucination (voices) for over 10 years. I have hope that the medications that I have been taking for over 40 years have helped my natural brain healing (it has recently been discovered that brain plasticity is real) bodily processes correct the brain damage caused by severe hallucinations experienced at the start of my illness.
I am still taking neuroleptic meds and will not try to get off them with out professional supervision. I was able to work in my profession for over 15 years and attend 2 universities. I have also had poltergeist like visual hallucinations which too have apparently ceased. The professional consensus opinion is that there is no cure for DDD but then they don't know the cause of the disease, why it comes on suddenly or why hallucinations are relieved by medications. In short science doesn't know much about the Brain.

I was prescribed a drug called AMUSILPRIDE about 2 yrs ago I was attending a psychiatrist as I had tried to take my own life ..
I take one 200mg tablet a day on reading the accompanying leaflet that came with the tablets it said they are used in the treatment of acute schizopherinia..
Next time I saw the psychiatrist I asked him if I was schizophrenic hence the reason I had been given these tablets I am still waiting on an answer...
I have 2 jobs raise 2 children on my own handle all my own finances socialise have passed my driving test attend university and lead a normal life...
I was discharged from the psychiatrist and told to take the tablet and get on with my life, I dont take the tablet everyday some times months go by without me taking it and I am neither up or down....
Schizophrenia is a very complex condition and has been studied for many years they have monitored people from birth a total of 5,936 people where evaluated in to adulthood they had 20 assessments since birth to age 36 and 30 cases of schizophrenia where found... In their study they discovered it can start in the womb from feotal development certain conditions being factors in this such as bleeding during pregnancy, nutritional deprivation, rubella and inlfuenza..
Is it possible to completely recover they havent found the answer yet as they havent found the answer to what causes it..
It is possible to lead a normal life if I am schizophrenic as I said i have never been diagnosed you wouldnt know unless I told you
there is also diffrent ways in which it affects the individual all have different symptoms if you want to call them that...
Many people have the wrong coception of schizophrenia so before they judge or pass comment they should educate theirselves as Ive done...
So if they dont know how it begins how can they cure it?

Recover? No, but they can be successfully treated with medication management and support of loved ones. Taking meds long term and managing one's self is really no different than having to take high blood pleasure to maintain good physical health.
