I was wondering, some people say all pups are born with worms, but how could they if the mother doesn't have them? Is it only bad breeders that have pups like that?

Thats what I thought. Hehe, I've herd it so many times and began to think so I asked. Just so you know, I am not planing on breeding or getting a puppy.

When we got our puppy at 8 wks old, we took him to the vet and she checked him for worms one second and de-wormed him the next. A couple of days later, when we got the results back, he didn't have worms in the first place. We don't regret having hims "dewormed" even though he was negative for worms. As a precaution, experts suggest you de-worm your dog regularly (every 2 wks) just in case. It can't hurt them.

Your friend is an fool. Worms are Parasites that invade all manner of Creature`s physique's and feed off the food that their hosts eat. Dog's get worms when they are in regards to the age of two months and so on. Typically puppy's which can be born in Junk Yards and are filthy through the age of two minutes can get worms days after they are born. Anyway, your friend is a Moran. IF the mum is having dog's and has worms the only factor that occurs to the pups is they get as a lot milk as they want. Inform your buddy from me that they're an idiot.

THERE IS A VERY GOOD REASON THAT PEOPLE SAY THIS. MORE OFTEN THAN NOT PUPPIES ARE BORN WITH WORMS. THE MOTHER DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE WORMS. WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT SOME TIME IN THE *****'S LIFE SHE HAD ROUND WORMS, OR THEY WERE PASSED FROM HER MOTHER TO HER.

EVEN IF A ***** DOESN'T HAVE WORMS, IF SHE HAS EVER HAD THEM, EVEN AS A PUPPY, SOME ROUNDWORM LARVAE GETS INTO THE *****'S MUSCLE TISSUE AND LIES DORMANT, UNTIL THE HORMONES OF PREGNANCY RELEASE THE LARVAE BACK INTO THE BLOOD STREAM. WORM LARVAE IS THEN TRANSFERRED TO THE PUPPIES BEFORE THEY ARE BORN. THE LARVAE IS NOT RELEASED UNLESS THE ***** GETS PREGNANT. SHE DOES NOT "HAVE WORMS" WHEN THE LARVAE IS LYING DORMANT IN HER MUSCLE TISSUE. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE MORE OFTEN THAN NOT PASSED FROM THEIR MOTHER WHEN THEY ARE BORN.

THEREFORE, ONCE A ***** HAS HAD ROUND WORMS, EVEN IF SHE GETS DE-WORMED, SHE WILL STILL ALWAYS PASS ROUNDWORM LARVAE TO HER PUPPIES. THEN THOSE PUPPIES (THE FEMALE PUPPIES, ONLY) WILL PASS IT ON TO THEIR LITTERS - AND THE CYCLE GOES ON AND ON. SO ONCE ONE ***** IN THE FAMILY TREE GETS WORMS, SHE PRETTY MUCH INFECTS ALL OF HER FEMALE OFFSPRING FOR ALL TIME.)

THIS EXPLAINS HOW PUPPIES GET WORMS FROM A ***** THAT DOESN'T HAVE WORMS, AND WHY UPWARDS OF 90% OF PUPPIES ARE BORN WITH ROUNDWORMS DEVELOP ROUNDWORMS AS YOUNG PUPPIES.

We all ASSUME that puppies have roundworms. Bit ches that are wormed and test negative for rounds before pregnancy can still pass them to the puppies through the milk. There can be encysted larve in the muscle tissue of the bit ch. The hormones of pregnancy can cause these to become active and released and passed to the puppies. that is why GOOD breeders worm pups and mom at 2,4,6,8 and 10 weeks. Puppies should not be SOLD with parasites!!!!!!

I work at a shelter, and the first two years, we always did fecals on puppies and kittens coming in to the shelter. AT LEAST 98% OF THEM HAD ROUNDWORMS, at either the first or secon fecal. So, we moved to a "worm everyone new in" policy. So, maybe not ALL puppies are going to have rounds, and no they are not BORN with them....but the majority of them are going to get them through the mothers milk.
And a negative fecal...especailly with puppies and kittens, does not mean they do not have parasites. that is why vets will give a wormer even though the test is negative. The fecal is most to find things like coccidia, whips, and even giaridia that can be harder to treat and require a different treatment.

To answer whippetwomans question...why give them poision just because.........

I do the routine worming starting at two weeks instead of waiting for fecal results because Strongid is so safe that why not worm them instead of waiting and finding out that they do and then having to only get one dose in before sending them to new homes. I would also rather they start being wormed if they have them, and instead of them carrying them for weeks if they could be wormed. And lastly, because the fecals done at 6-8 weeks are not always accurate.

They are born with roundworms and should always be dewormed. Puppies and kittens. We do everything that comes in with nemex or strongid as soon as it hits the door. Babies included. Even those that we do everything we can for the mom before she gives birth but babies still have round worms.

Your not the only one that wonders we have had fosters that didn't understand how they got worms.

It is better to be safe than sorry.Different vets will tell you conflicting things about worming. My vet tells me to begin worming at 2 wks of age .My moms feet never hit the earth.Only concrete and my home floors and some pavement upon walking time .He is very familiar with my pets and their surroundings, but he still suggests worming at 2wks along wiTh mom and siblings.I only give 1/10 th of a cc to my tiny babies and I will admit to having accidentally worming a puppy twice???Even then my vet says "Don't Worry It Won't Hurt your Baby"???so how potent is this high priced wormer???Not very I don't think.Anyway I have consulted with at least 4 vets and they have always told me yes all pups are born with worms???Go Figure...

I don't understand why people automatically put poisons in a puppies body if it doesn't need it, "just in case".

I have my pups tested for worms and haven't wormed a pup in years.

It is not only bad breeders than can have worms though, it can happen to anyone. Worms are worse in some parts of the country than they are up here on the frozen tundra!

No, not all dogs born with worms, and no no, not bad breeders let the puppy have worms. Puppy have different immune system from the mother, so even the sire was dewormed the puppy can get worms from the mother.
It is always recommended you deworm your puppy as scheduled, weather you think the mother has worm or not.

torbaynew is correct,
it's assumed all pups are born with worms, there is no way to know for certain if worms are passed thru momther's milk or not.

so, all pups are wormed.
and anyone who tells you pup's dont need dewormed, are WRONG
