will the busses take us there or will we have to go to downtown disney, get off, and then "return" to the polynesian?

The Polynesian is right next door to the Transportation and Ticket Center. However, I suggest getting the "Official Guide to Walt Disney World" originated by Steve Birnbaum.

It is updated annually and tells you anything and everything you need to know about WDW. We buy a new one every year, whether we go or not! It's nice to see what changes from year to year.

While this link won't get you from the Movies to the Polynesian, it does tell you what types of transportation are available from which hotel, resort, etc. Look almost at the bottom of the page. It also lets you know which exits to take when you're going someplace by car.

The shuttle will take you from your hotel to the transportation and ticket center. Just get on the bus that says: Magic Kingdom. You will then board the monorail and the first stop from the T&TC will be the Polynesian.

The busses stop at the Polynesion I believe. I don't think they go to Downtown Disney but it's close. Have fun!

At All Star Movies the buses make pickups at Cinema Hall, for trips to each of the 4 theme parks, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon and Downtown Disney. You will need to transfer to another bus that will take you to the Polynesian.

one thing you could do is go to the closest amusement park to your resort (via. bus) the just get off and head for the Polynesian bus stop and just go straight there

Yep Beach Gal is right. Take the bus to the Magic Kingdom and either walk or take the monorail
