I googled it and this came up
"Hypothyroidism may be associated with carpal tunnel syndrome because hypothyroid patients tend to retain fluid in connective tissues due to an accumulation of mucopolysaccarides, a substance that accumulates abnormally in hypothyroidism. This exacerbates the swelling and worsens the compression of the median nerve as it passes under the connective tissues overlying the wrist."- Allthyroid.com (Ask a doctor section)
Hope that helps

Yes, a thyroid problem can be a contributing factor. This is what I found from "National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke".
Carpal tunnel syndrome is often the result of a combination of factors that increase pressure on the median nerve and tendons in the carpal tunnel, rather than a problem with the nerve itself. Most likely the disorder is due to a congenital predisposition - the carpal tunnel is simply smaller in some people than in others. Other contributing factors include trauma or injury to the wrist that cause swelling, such as sprain or fracture; overactivity of the pituitary gland; hypothyroidism; rheumatoid arthritis; mechanical problems in the wrist joint; work stress; repeated use of vibrating hand tools; fluid retention during pregnancy or menopause; or the development of a cyst or tumor in the canal. In some cases no cause can be identified.
Hope this helps.

First do you think you have a hyperthyroid (over active) or a hypothyroid (under active) problem. These will cause your body to react differently. Carpal Tunnel in and of itself is a different problem. If you suspect your thyroid may be causing a problem, don't hesistate to make an appointment with your doctor for some lab work to be done. A simple bloodtest can determine if your thyroid is fine or not. Then you can ask your doctor about the other.

I have a low thyroid, and I have had 'carpal tunnel' in the past, before I 'got' this low thyroid. It may 'make it seem worse' because with any 'thyroid problem' the body goes 'nuts' and experiences 'pain' differently that when your thyroid is 'normal.' But, generally, no, thyroid problems can NOT 'give you' or anyone 'carpal tunnel syndrome.' If you have 'pain' or any kid of physical problems that 'worry you,' you should talk to your doctor and LISTEN to what he tells you.

Neither has anything to do with the other. Carpel tunnel is a repetitive movement thing. A thyroid problem is caused by your thyroid gland non functioning properly.

Not carpel tunnel. But it can give you signs of arthritis. Or joint pains. The best thing to do is get lab work done and get seen by a rheumatoid arthritis specialist.

I have never heard of that and I have 2 family member's that had, and have it........Altho, you may have to take your illness very serious!!! Especially if you have "Graves disease" from your thyroid problem........ My neice, had "Graves disease" and was on medication from it, and went to live with her older sister after she graduated highshool, and well no one knew how serious it was for her to take her medication everyday....... And not miss one day!!! Well, my other neice woke-up one morning to her husband yellling "Tosha get out here, now!!!" Her husband had been doing CPR, on Shavon, Tosha's little sister for awhile, and lo' and behold my neice passed-away, sometime that evening in her sleep, from not taking her medication correctly........ And her sister carries around the "Guilt" probably everyday, that she didn't make her sister take her medication everyday!!! The sad thing about this disease, is NONE of us realized how SERIOUS it was for her to take it on a regular basis!!! We'd never even heard of it, so we all just assumed it was a rare "no big deal" type of disease!! But we were all mislead, and dead wrong about how important it was for her to take it every single day, of her life!!! Her death could have been Completely avoided, had we known how deadly it was!!! Now even the name tells us how important it is that one takes their medication every single day!!! So, if you know anyone that has this or if you have it , Please, Please, Please take me very serious about taking your medication all the time, on a daily like your doctor prescribed!!! Smile!!!
