that is to say that Christians, Jews and Muslims are in fact brothers worshipping the same God, just that the muslims call Him Allah?

Muslims may be descendants of Ishmael, but it is hardly conclusive. And even if they are, Muslims do not worship the same God as Christians.

That is a common misconception, however. People often want to believe that because these three religions are monotheistic and claim Abraham as a patriarch, that they worship the same God. This myth is perpetuated by the Muslims, who want to draw you to them by claiming that Islam is the final of three ways God reached out to mankind. This belief is in error.

Any remote similarities between Islam and Christianity are at best superficial. The differences outweigh the similarities.

An example:

In Islam, the Qur'an states rather clearly, "Proclaim: Allah is One. Allah is Eternal. He neither begets nor was begotten." (Surah 112:1-4)

In Christianity, we believe that Jesus was begotten. (John 1:14) Jesus clearly states that He is God: "Truly, truly I tell you, before there was an Abraham, I am!" (John 8:58) Naturally, there are many other examples I could use, but it wouldn't really help.

Here's the paradox: Either Islam is right, and Jesus is not God, nor begotten; or Christianity is right, and Jesus is God, and is begotten. We can't have it both ways. Islam will never hold to a belief that Jesus is God. And Christians will not accept that Jesus is not God, and is not begotten. Therefore, they do not worship the same God.

The basis of Christianity is the Holy Trinity, which Muslims regard as polytheistic worship and wrong. So we cannot worship the same God when Christians believe Him to be of the Body, Son and Holy Spirit and Muslims believe him to be only ONE. However, Muslims and Jews probably have more in common asfar as worshiping the same God.

The fact that Muslims are a descendant of Ishmael (so ultimately Abraham) has nothing to do with worshiping the same God and calling him another name. Christians believe that Jesus is also God-Isaiah 9:6-For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace...none of this fits the Islamic teaching of Allah. Christians and Muslims believe God to be two very different things that are contradictory, so we cannot believe in the same God.

Christians do recognize that Muslims are the descendants of Ishmael, no doubt about that.

If your assertion about all worshipping the same God were true, to what would you ascribe the divergent views and forms of worship.

One of the belief systems states "love your enemies" while the other states "kill the infidels". Does that sound like the same God to you?

So, no. They do not worship the same God. One example: Muhammad recognized that Jews worshipped the true God and tried to convert to Judaism. Once rebuffed, he began his own "religion" peppered with hatred for the Jews who dared to reject him. Pretty convenient, don't you think? If they worshipped the same God, Muhammad (and others) would have been readily accepted. They were not.

Another example: All holy" books claim to be inspired by God. However, to what do you attribute the discrepancy between the NT and the qu'ran regarding Jesus death? The NT states that he died on the cross and was resurrected. The qu'ran states that Jesus was NOT crucified, but a disciple took his place on the cross. If both books were truly written by God, then they would be consistent with one another. Clearly one of the books was not written by the true God.

Not all Muslims are descendents of Ishmael; only SOME of them are. An equally large number of Muslims are descended from Abraham's nephew, Lot. Still others are descended from Esau. And yes, Christians do realize some Muslims are descended from Ishmael.

However, the Hebrew Bible contains a multitude of proof that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is NOT the same as the Muslim god "Allah." For example, read Psalm 83, which is an end-times prophecy (some of you may know an ancient copy of Psalms was found in an Ireland peat bog last year -- open to this very Psalm.) Verses 1 through 8 read:

1 Do not keep silent, O God!
Do not hold Your peace,
And do not be still, O God!
2 For behold, Your enemies make a tumult;
And those who hate You have lifted up their head.
3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people,
And consulted together against Your sheltered ones.
4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”

5 For they have consulted together with one consent;
They form a confederacy against You:
6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;
Moab and the Hagrites;
7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek;
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
8 Assyria also has joined with them;
They have helped the children of Lot. Selah

If you notice, the Psalmist tells us in verse 2 that the nations listed in verses 6 through 8 are God's enemies who HATE Him. Now, carefully research what countries each of the nations listed in verses 6 -8 are now. (HINT: they're ALL Muslim nations.) This ALONE is proof the Muslim "god" and our all-powerful God are NOT the same.

Note, also, that the descendents of Ishmael are on that list ....

I recognise the fact that muslims are decendents of Ishmael. Do muslims recognise that Issac is the son of promise?

It is not as though God's word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham's children. On the contrary, “It is THROUGH ISAAC that your offspring will be reckoned.” In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring. For this was how the promise was stated: “At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.”
Romans 9:6-9

If Christians and Muslims worship the same God, then muslims must worship Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son of God. If this is possible, then I embrace you as brother.

Just as their are "Jews" who are not descendants of Isaac (such as the late Sammie Davis Jr), so there are many Muslims that are not racial related to the Arabs or Ishamel. Look at Indoneisa for example with its high Polynesian and Oriental population and high Muslim percentage.

And just as not all Muslims are Arabs, neither are all Arabs Muslim. You will find people of Arab descend in every religion and philophosy there is. Does that make all those religions (including atheism - as there are Arab atheist) also worshippers of the same God?

While the Muslims claim - or prohaps would even like - to worship the same God as the Christians, they do not. They reject the deity of Jesus Christ, therefroe the reject the Christian God. As soon as the Muslims bow to the deity and Lordship of Jesus, they will be worshipping the same God as the Christians.

Similar and not the same. You call Jesus a mere Prophet and do not acknowledge Him as God in the flesh! You are the 1/2 brothers of the Jews. Ishmael was of Cush and also a decendant of Abraham.

I think they have the misconception that Allah/God of the muslims is a different one than theirs. Although the 3 religions are from the same idea of pure monotheism, each coming after the other because of the prophets God sent at each time. They were just following the message that each prophets had brough before them. The essence is the same, why is it difficult to understand?
God is God, they can´t be 3 or 10, jews, christian and muslims believe that there can only be one, it's the fundamental of believing.

There have just been different interpretation of what image God has obviously. One should only believe in ONE God, without any equal or associate, no one is like HIM...
