yes you are absolutely right. god is an idea created by man so that he can rely on some unknown force when he could not face some miseries ,problems in life and when he can not explain certain things.god was created by some smart people to prevent people from doing bad deeds .they professed the principle of reinforcement and punishment.good people go to heaven bad people go to hell. but religions miserably failed to desist people from committing sins.instead of making people moral beings, several millions of people died because of religious wars.

For the most part, yes. Human beings look upon their gods as simply 'humanity writ large'. Therefore, most of our less than godly human characteristics get applied to Deity as well. We judge, and therefore we create a judgmental god. We seek revenge, and therefore we create a vengeful god, etc. Fortunately, these gods (no matter how horrible) always seem to inherit some of the best of humanity as well. Love, forgiveness, grace. We just need to make sure that our gods have more of these characteristics, and less of the others.

Well, more than us "creating" gods in our image, we actually envision gods resembling us. This makes sense because it is a form to which we can most relate and bond. Gods bearing animal forms also probably came about for similar reasons. I still hold that God is formless and infinite, but sometimes having an image of something we can hold in our minds while we pray does help. This of course, isn't the case for everyone, some people find it better to treat God as formless.

Fascinating Question!! It seems from the beginning of time that man has fashioned gods out of clay, wood, and stone. These gods which man has made, he has also given names and attributes and procedures for worshipping them.
There is one religion that God has told man who he is. The Bible says that God created man in HIS image. He also delivered his Word to man by way of the Bible which tells us how to behave and how to live. It DOESN'T tell us what God looks like or where He lives (other than heaven). This makes the God of the Bible rather unique.

Think about this...what human is perfectly loving, perfectly kind, perfectly wise, perfectly forgiving, and perfectly merciful? I know of none. Since humans are Imperfect in all of the aspects I have named, we can assume that this God that we believe in is not created by our imperfect selves but we are created by the God's perfect self. That is how we are created in his image (we have fragmented parts of his characteristics and have the potential to have them almost completely perfect). I hope this answers your question.

I pity the person who looks like Lord Ganesha.
The human characteristics assigned to gods can be ridiculous in the extreme. The lord thy god is a jealous god? He's freaking omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent - what's he jealous of? One of his more omnipotent neighbors?

we aren't the creators. The snake's lie is still corrupting man's hearts and minds.
