I'm very confused with this. I have a good friend who is straight, but has an effeminate voice and, at times, acts effeminate.
Is he going to hell just because he's effeminate, though he has a longtime girlfriend and is planning an August wedding?

My friend just can't help being this way....it's who he is.

Are there classes offered in the church that will make him more of a 'man'....or more "manly", so he can go to heaven?

This refers to a person having sexual relations with children. This is like "abusers of themselves with mankind", or homosexual relations between (consenting) adults, but this is child sexual abuse. (It may also refer to male prostitution.)

This verse (1 Corinthians 6:9) contans four major areas of sexual sin: fornication (sexual relations between the unmarried), adultry (sexual relations of a married person with someone other that their spouse), using children as sex objects, and homosexuality.

These are sins that can be repented of. Notice verse 11, "And such WERE some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."

This does not talk about how high piched your voice is. This is talking about sinful relations with others.

The King James version of the Bible was translated in 1611. Many words in the English language have changed in meaning since then. This is one good example of that. Many of the newer translations give a better rendering of this verse. The King James version is not wrong in this instance but you have to remember the difference between 1611 language and modern English.

Where are you getting your facts about divorce? I do not recall learning this being a ritual at church. Using the Bible, what I can recall is that the only time a divorce would be justified is if the act of adultery had happened. An other excuse would then make both parties guilty of adultery. The Bible again in various places Old and New Testament is very explicit when it comes to homosexuality. It speaks against it. To answer your question, my opinion would be that both are wrong unless the act of adultery was committed.

If you believe the bible then, yes, effeminate men are sinning as are women who speak out. He's going to hell and, for asking the question, so are you.

Realistically, nobody's going to hell. How can you believe in a god that would care about the things the bible says he cares about? It just doesn't make sense. It was a primitive belief created by a primitive group of tribes for a primitive time.

I believe that you are speaking of 1Corinthians 6:9-10. In the New American Standard Bible, it reads as follows: (please note the Footnote that is included in this bible.)

9Or (B)do you not know that the unrighteous will not (C)inherit the kingdom of God? (D)Do not be deceived; (E)neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will (F)inherit the kingdom of God.

There is much controversy in regard to the New American Standard Bible translation. They have tried to translate it so that it is easier for us to understand in our modern language, but in some verses, by changing the language, they have changed the way most people interpret it.

When you have a question about a verse it is good to check a different translation of the bible and compare. This will help understand it better.

A good website where you can compare Bible translations is http://www.biblegateway.com/

Hope this helps.

Since I don't know the particular verse you're referring to (you really should note it), I can't say much. However, males should embrace godly masculinity and females should embrace godly femininity. We shouldn't be denying the nature God designed us to have. God designed you to be the sex you were born, so you should embrace the associated sexuality.

It isn't the behavior that makes someone a man (or woman), it's the heart behind it. A man takes initiative, protects, loves God, and many other things. If he has embraced the masculine heart, that's good.

As for a class, "Wild at Heart" by John Eldredge might be a good book to read, maybe with some other male friends.

I think that trying to reason with those who's religious belief are pretty much cemented in the notion that he's gonna go to hell is useless and pointless.

If he or you find yourselves around people who feel this way then I would seriously consider making haste to someplace else.

No, there is nothing in the scripture that says that. And frankly it's not for anyone to judge him. Take out first the log that's in our eyes before we take out the speck that's in his.
Judge not.
Love
These are the most basic christian principles that seem to be overlooked for those that give us more satisfaction, those that somehow make us bigger than the sinner who seem to be only too happy to try and point out for all to see.

Frankly I believe that your friend may go to heaven before anyone else. If only because he has learned to love more than most so called Christians.

LOVE, DON'T JUDGE.

Jesus came for the sinners. He forgave the prostitute and rejected the high priests who did nothing close to what she did.

The first shall be the last....

I say bless you for taking him in as a friend and no judging him. I say BLESS YOU for overlooking his speck and pointing out our logs, I say BLESS YOU for speaking like a true child of God.

My Bible doesn't say that having effeminate characteristics fall into the category of 'sin'.

I think that's what "Promise Keepers" is about. They have walking lessons. How to be disinterested in home decor. And a graduate level class in "Being Emotionally Distant: It's Easier Than You Think!"
