Why do we as United Statesians act like the Borg when it comes to immigrants? Our attitude is:
'RESISTANCE IS FUTILE, YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED'
Why don't we just let immigrants be, and celebrate our diversity?

Haley, what does that have to do with the question posted?
Leafy, nope I'm not from Venezuela I was born and raised in the American South West. I refer to myself as a United Statesian because that's what the majority of Americans call us. It is politically correct to call ourselves Americans with the intent of denoting citizenship is arrogant at best. BTW I am a US citizen :-)
Pirate, "They are free to maintain their own customs and religion and maintain their individuality. The U.S. is a melting pot and we do celebrate diversity."
that's the way it should be, but I keep hearing people say mold to our way of life or get out. That's the reason for the question.

Pirate again:
As far as United Statesian and American...
there is no such a thing as ‘American’ nationality, America is not a nation America is a continent with many nations in it. The US never named itself the name of the United States is a designation it comes from the end of the Declaration of Independence, "WE, therefore, the Representatives of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in GENERAL CONGRESS, Assembled...". The preamble to the U.S. Constitution reiterated the phrase: "We the People of the United States..." (The authors of these two documents probably used the phrase "united states" in place of a list of colonies/states because they remained uncertain at the time of drafting which colonies/states would sign off on the sentiments therein.) The geographic term "America" specifies the states' home on the American continent.
It is therefor incorrect to refer to US citizens as Americans with the intent of denoting citizenship.

mikea "As long as every immigrant 1) adapts to the American way of life, 2) learns to speak English and 3) becomes a US Citizen!!"
Thats exactly what I'm talking about, that is assimilation not a celebration of our diversity.

Think about the answer.
Diversity and multi-culturalism = multiple groups of people in the same territory competing against each other for jobs, resources and territory.
Diversity = dis-unity.
What's the point of a nation? The point is this: It's so a group of "like" people can live in peace amongst each other and be self-governed.
How has multi-ethnic nations in the past fared? What happened to Yugoslavia? What's happening in Iraq? (Ethnic/cultural tensions.)
Diversity and multi-culturalism is a poison pill for the United States. Large groups of different people competing against each other. (White people aren't actively competing, they still think America is one big happy family and let people steamroll them.)

First of all, we are Americans, not United Statesians. United Statesains is not even a word!!
Second, Americans are fine with LEGAL immigration!! It is ILLEGAL immigration that we have a problem with. And rightfully so! An issue which you seem to be avoiding!!
Last but not least, we do celebrate our diversity. America is proud to be a melting pot. As long as every immigrant 1) adapts to the American way of life, 2) learns to speak English and 3) becomes a US Citizen!!

We are United States citizens of the United States ""OF"" AMERICA. We call our citizens "Americans". We get that title from the name of our COUNTRY, not from the name of our CONTINENT. If you call us "United Statesians", you would also need to call Mexicans "United Statesians" since they are actually from the "United States of Mexico". Then their would be no way to know if they were from the USA or Mexico. The ENTIRE world knows us as "Americans". People from Mexico are called Mexican, from the name of their COUNTRY. The same for most COUNTRIES and their people.
No one says people have to lose their culture or any such thing. We have people here from many other countries who manage to maintain their cultures and STILL assimilate into our American society. What is the problem with those people who are fighting it so?(mostly from those illegal immigrants from across our southern border and people like you, who support them)
I think people are trying to make it more difficult than it is and are fighting it tooth and nail. Come here LEGALLY, learn the language of this country, abide by our laws and respect us and we'll respect you, nothing hard or earth shattering about being plain civilized.

The legal immigrant is an American or soon will be and is accepted. The illegal alien is an unwelcome trespasser and needs to be deported, and nothing less.http://usawakeup.org/HowToDestroyAmerica.htm

I am a native born American and I will not accept your silly Internet made up word for what we Americans are and are known as ALL over the world. You seem to have a fixation on the word because you know it pisses us off. That's the ONLY reason you use it.
There's a differences in diversity and trying to turn the USA into a miserable cess pools like the nations most of the illegal aliens ran away from.

American is DEFINATELY a nationality.
It's not a conflict, just as Washington is a state and also the district of columbia.
American can be a nation, and America can be a continent or land mass.
Either way, I'm an AMERICAN from the nation of AMERICA.

We dont care that people from other countries want to live here. It's the best country to live in! All we ask is that if you move here number one do it legally, no.2 we dont want to have to accomodote them more than they do so for us. Learn english, dont expect (and I think it is BS that they have) to have every call you make give you a bi lingual option esp for government agencies. (personal pet peeve lol)
Your view of assimiliation into American (thats the proper term) society, seems somewhat vague. We don't want immigrants (illegal) coming in and workin for scab companys that hire them and take away jobs from hardworkin Americans, that actually want the jobs. Or the unions trying to keep their guys on the job. In that aspect we want the new citizens to be with us on this to keep America strong and keep our jobs here. Its an economic assimilation. We already celebrate our diversity in this country, esp in the summertime, check out your community festivals theres prolly a different one every week. (just a quick example).

What is a "united statesian"? There is no such term. If you are referring to persons who reside in the United States, I believe we are called American's!
If immigrants choose to live in our country then they should obey our rules and laws and learn to speak our language, but by no means are they "assimilated". They are free to maintain their own customs and religion and maintain their individuality. The U.S. is a melting pot and we do celebrate diversity.
If you are referring to the immigration problem we have with our southern border, and wanting to "let them be", I am sorry that can't be done. Our country is currently overrun with illegal aliens and it is taxing our economic stability. The border is that, a BORDER, not to be crossed without proper authorization. If you don't have it then they are breaking the law and the law should be enforced and they should be turned around and sent back where they came from.

what's a United Statesian? sensible, yet no such component exists clever, aleck! We call ourselves human beings no longer because of the fact we've self belief that we are the only ones in "united states of america of america" yet because of the fact that's a shortened version of united states of america. it rather is a mouthful so it grow to be shortened to human beings a protracted time in the past. the international now attaches the identify of human beings to U.S. electorate. no ought to get your panties in a ruffle. it is not some style of average. There are the continents of North united states of america of america and South united states of america of america and there are diverse words to describe areas interior those continents which includes important united states of america of america. Why do have this sort of chip on your shoulder over this sort of mundane component??? What makes a continent isn't desperate by way of whomever desires to make it up. that's a scientific entity. Continents are formed by way of plate tectonics. that's a scientific actuality that united states of america of america isn't one continent.

Let immigrants be? I Agree - however, I don't think we should 'just let' illegal immigrants come here, milk the system, depend on hard working American citizens to pay for their expenses, rape our children, etc.
How about you pay for all of their expenses. Hell, let them move into YOUR house.
Pull your head out of the sand and get real. Sure, there are human rights - but that doesn't mean they should be allowed to reside in a country they're not citizens to.. More so, think of where their true loyalty lies - MEXICO.
You should count your blessings instead of turning your back on America and what it stands for. Keep supporting these acts of CRIMINALS and you can kiss your life and the American dream goodbye.

We have no problem with immigrants. Providing they are legal. If you are legal, welcome to our house. You came here to be a citizen of the United States, didn't you? Fine, now learn English. Be as diverse as you'd like, as long as you follow the rules of your host country.
Thank you very much.
