I find that if I put the chicken in a crockpot on low for 4 or 5 hours and then let it cool to the touch and shred it.. it works better.

The meat is tender. I have tried boiling the chicken and then shredding the meat it's always tough.

I usually use two forks. One to hold the meat and the other to pull it off the breast. Works for me!

To shred chicken, use two forks and insert the prongs, back sides facing each other, into the center of a portion of meat. Pull the forks gently away from each other, causing the meat to break into thin strips. Continue the process until the entire piece has been pulled apart.

It really is quicker using two forks. One to hold it down, one to pull it apart. Too many people are going for the no fork route. And it shows in the finished chicken/beef/pork.

OH, and I find it easier if the chicken is still hot, and well done.

With your fingers.

I have seen it done by using 2 forks and pulling the meat apart, but that takes too long. Rip it up with your bare (clean) hands.

It's a tedious job, there really isn't a quick way. You have to use your fingers to be sure there are no skinny little bones hiding out in the meat.
