Everytime my kids go to visit their dad they come home with lice. He is living with his sister and father. Now his sister has a 3 yr old. He also has a 1 yr old from another woman. I have told him about this problem, but I get the impression that he doesn't get it. The school keeps sending my son home. I keep treating everyone and everything. I just don't know what to do. I am frustrated.

Well you can shave your kids' heads.
We had a similar problem with a neighbor. Every time my kids would get around her kid, they'd come home with bugs in their hair. That gets rather expensive after a while but you just feel nasty.
I went over and talked to her about it only to find out she didn't know how to get rid of them. She'd been washing her girls hair with Rid every 10 days and not combing out the nits or anything. I explained to her how to get rid of them, what products to use, how often to treat them.. etc. Maybe your husband doesn't know how to get rid of them.
Explain that the scratching can cause a secondary infection and the children can be taken away from both of you.
If that fails then you may have to call in a social worker to pay them a visit or have his visitation suspended until he gets rid of the lice.
Good luck

I would tell your ex that he can no longer see your children until he has actually cured the problem on a long term basis. Until then if you continue to let your son go to visit him, make sure your sons hair is dirty, i.e. gel, hairspray, etc. Believe it or not lice love a clean environment, so the dirtier the better. Sounds truly gross, but it should work. I am a hairdresser in New York, and I could not believe that when I found it out back in cosmetology school, but I have told several people since then.=, and it does work. The myth is you must be dirty to have lice, but it is entirely un-true. You should also print out some literature for your ex because chances are he just does not know how to properly clean to get rid of the infestation. Hope this helps.

I know it sounds harsh, but you could always report him to family services. If he's not treating the problem and the kids keep getting it while over there, something needs to be done.
If nothing else, it'll scare him into getting off his butt and getting rid of the problem.
Perhaps he doesn't know exactly how to get rid of them altogether. For example, washing EVERYthing in the home, and bagging up pillows and stuffed animals for a minimun of 2 weeks to suffocate the little boogers.
I'd tell him that until the situation is solved, the kids won't be visiting. You can't have the kids missing so much school and you certainly must be going nuts by treating your own home over and over again.
Good luck

Ask your hair dresser for tips on how to make it easier on you.. I have been told that hairspray works as well!! As for the father who isn't doing anything about the problem, well I hope he gets lice! Wash and dry everything in your house immediately, blankets, sheets, pillow cases, vacuum your *** off!! Wash throw rugs, BUT the most important thing of all is to dry the laundry that could be infested for a good 2 hours or more!! Lice can not survive in heat.. But you have to be sure to OVER dry them! Lice die if not on something living for 24hrs. So, if you have a piece of hair on a hair brush in the bathroom for 3 days and it hasn't been touched, more than likely the lice are dead! They need something to feed off of.

grease up their hair before they go to dads.otherwise you can get this lice repelent from walgreens.but a natural way is conditioner and other hair products.this keeps the lice from being able to cling to the hair shaft and also keeps the nits off.basicaly it creats undesirable living conditions.you can also get a hot lice comb.

I would tell your ex he needs to treat his home and all you can really do is continue treating it or call child services on him. You can also put two to three drops of t-tree oil in the shampoo he uses. That is supposed to keep them from getting them. You can purchase it at walmart.

This has happened twice with my step son. He will no longer be going back to see good old dad.

Send him an email with this link and tell him until the issue is resolved he will not be seeing his child.
