Ok so I am bipolar, have PSTD, know what panic attacks are and how to handle that. Still, I had a confrontation today that has left me very emotional and nervous and upset and I can't calm down!! I feel physically sick I am so upset! I can't think straight or function, and that's not a luxury I can afford right now. Can't get ahold of the therapist at the moment either....till THURSDAY. Any suggestions?!

If you have had training in controlling your panic disorder, you can control this. Get a paper bag, go someplace quiet and alone, breathe slowly in and out with the paper bag over your mouth and nose for about five minutes. Concentrate on your breathing, don't allow any other thoughts into your head but the state of your breathing. Panic attacks are self limiting, you know this, so calm down, do what you need to to balance yourself.

And if you can't breathe, try breathing into a paper bag for a few minutes. Sounds like you're hyperventilating. Once you get your breathing under control, that should help calm you down a little. Try splashing some cold water on your face and just sitting in a quiet room with your eyes closed for a minute. Whatever happened is over now and the feelings will pass. Everything will be all right. And yes, if you don't feel better soon, go see another therapist in the meantime.

I am not a doctor, but I do read a lot and have a daughter who suffered with ADD until I found the culprit which was high fructose corn syrup and the changes in her are amazing!!!!

My suggestion is to deal with a new issue to help solve the old one. This new issue is food. Change your diet immediately, it will help. Do not eat chemical laden foods with high fructose corn syrup, msg, hydrogenated oil. Be strict too. Do the research and go food shopping. Putting your mind on other things will help tremendously. Start with diet and see the difference. I included a link on hfcs and msg, but there is a ton of reading online. As for meat, eat only free range meats. The animal cruelty and chemicals that goes into commercial meat cannot be good for your body at all. I know, I have had anxiety in the past and the only thing that ever helped was putting my mind on a new issue and focusing on that.

Also walking is a great way to reduce stress. I read an article in Woman's magazine that said after an argument people who take an hour walk find themselves relieved from the anger. I have tried this and it works!

ok i know a little about panik attacks and there not very pleasent. you just need to get to a nice dim quiet place and do some deep breathing. try not to think about the situation that brought the attack. just focous on your breathing and getting your self calmed down. it may be difficult but if you dont calm down quickley you can become overwhelemed and pass out. so stay calm is the trick.

First things first, write everything down in a journal that is bothering you. Take a deep, deep breath, have a beer.
Then think about what caused you to be so upset, then write down how you could control your emotions.
Then think about how you can calm down, maybe take some ny-quil and sleep.
Just CALM down, theres only so much we can do for you over the internet.

Nice cool shower... deep breaths... maybe check on a different therapist. Do something relaxing, like watch a movie or play a game of sorts on the computer... etc. EAT ICECREAM.

If this happens in the morning (nervous, heart palpitations, anxiety, fear, crying) you could have a very high cortisol imbalance. If you feel worse in the morning, but better off in the evenings, it's probably the case. This is one of those things where you have to overhaul your lifestyle, diet, exercise, etc.

Call a different Therapist to help you out until then. You need help, so get it. There's nothing wrong with that. Good luck!

I suggest screaming and crying.. sounds kinda silly but for people like us we tend to build up our emotions and erupt like a volcano.. at least I do.

BTW I just wanted to add that you will be fine, this will pass and you will feel in controll again.

I normally take Valium whenever my attacks get out of hand.
