besides give money to them or the so called non-profit organizations that never really help anyone.

are there real groups that really help or do we as a people need to form one?

Actually helping is a good start. We care more for criminals then the poor. Criminals get cable, three square meals, plus the chance of education and employment. The poor get spat on.

Are you talking about the physically indigent or the spiritually indigent in the USA currently?
I suspect the spiritually indigent in this country is more common than physically indigent. (Look at the division in 'Christianity' in the USA presently).

The average American can vote people who are communitarians into office.

We need more people like Bernie Sanders.

Volunteer your time - the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army all come to mind.

Start accepting the homeless into work. Allow children to get an education for free.
