In a couple months I will be buying a new PC. Does Vista have many issues with things like device drivers or resource mismanagement that would make it advisable to try and get XP on the new machine, and wait to update to Vista later?

Or should I take advantage of the new operating system now and be glad I am getting a new PC at such a convenient time?

Will both OSes be available from a company like Dell/Alienware or will I be forced into Vista?

I may not be an authority on advising pro or con vista since I have not used it. However I've read a lot of the reviews and I am not all that impressed. What I can confidently advise you on is this. The key component in choosing an OS always rests squarely on what you used the PC for, your level of knowledge of IT (Information Technology) as well as your profession. All the pros and cons need to be taken into context.

If the PC is for home use, then XP is more than adequate. I have more than one PCs one of which still runs Windows 2000 since this serves my needs more than adequately. XP needs a lot more processing capabilities and the like which I do not need since I use the PC for checking mails, browsing the Internet and some research here and there.

So it's more what you need to do than what's the most current. Also what I've read of Vista it has had a LOT of issues. I'd stay clear of it until these have been sorted. In whatever I choose to invest in I use the general rule of letting it be out on the market and used for a while, gather feedback from someone who's used the product and then make a decision after that. This has served me well whether it be for a major purchase such as a car or something as simple as buying a calculator or watch.

Hope this helps

If I were you I'd stay with XP, only because Vista is so new.. It was supposed to come out a couple years ago but because of all the glitches its coming out now... If you remember when the XP came out, like a week after new super viruses came out and went thro all the new OS security holes... the only super new thing about vista is that is graphicly superior, but if you want a good working OS thats pretty stable go with XP...

Thats just windows tho, yesterday I deleted windows off my computer for a free OS called Linux... if your intrested just download the ISO and burn it onto a DVD, etc its just a live cd but when you play it thro your bios,
and load it, on the ubuntu desktop their will be a install icon. www.ubuntu.com <----- the best LINUX EVER!!!

Well hope you make a good investment,

Vista looks compelling, but being a long time user of Microsoft products, the first year or so of a Microsoft product often feels like you're working with the Beta version. I would wait a little longer for the kinks to be worked out.

I heard that xp is being replaced in about 2 or 3 months. I guess a new microsoft thing is coming so take it from there.

i recommend vista reason for that is because vista will always update itself when the new patchs and versions comeout. and in one year or one year and a half everyone will be forced to use vista whether they want to or not.

Don't get Vista unless you plan on buying a powerhouse computer.
