I have a 1 year old doberman named Mojo. He would never show aggression toward anyone that does not mean us any harm. He is great with all children and my handicapped daughter.
ALL dogs no matter what breed need to be supervised around children,
Dobermans because of Hollywoods portrayals of them and some money hungry breeders have gotten a bad rap. They are a highly intelligent breed and just like children will push the boundaries to see what they can get away with but with owners that are knowledgeable about the breed and a firm loving owner they are the best family dog you could ever ask for.
My Mojo thinks he is a lap dog all 80lbs and the only thing anyone has to fear from him is maybe being licked to death.
I for one will always have a doberman as part of our family for
the rest of my life.

I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old Doberman. Neither would never show aggression toward anyone that is invited into hour home and who does not mean us any harm. They are great with all children, yet my 2 year old is a tad slow to warm up to strangers in general. My 3 Dobes before these two were natured the same exact way.

Frankly, children are more unpredictable than dogs when it comes to behavior. For that reason alone, ALL dogs no matter what breed should be supervised around children.

Dobermans are a highly intelligent breed and their brains are constantly working. They love to push the envelope to see if the rules from last week still apply. They will especially test "guests."

There is no other breed for me. Imagine someone growing up with Mini-Doxies saying that...but its true.

Okay - I don't own a Doberman. But I do love the breed.
I think they look like slim Rottweillers. If Rottweillers are bouncers then Dobermans are Film stars.
These dogs put fear into you just looking at them. There stare is terrifying. I have come across two of these dogs and both of them held my respect. I just like them. They are not even big dogs really. The dobermans appearance and experience in guard work is awesome. They are not the best fighting dog and they are not the best guard dog in the world but they hold their own and I would not mess with a doberman. I personally own an Akita a dog that more than equals the doberman. But I would def. own a dobbie. Ofcourse I prefer the Akita. But dobbies and Rotties for that matter score high on my approval.

I have had dobermans for about 17 years now and I love them.
I also have Weimaraners.
I love the Doberman. For me they are the perfect dog.
Protective and watchful and a wonderful companion. They take lots of exercise and training but for me I like to spend time training and I live on 7 acres so they have lots of room to run and play.

My dobie is definately a big love-pig when it comes to wanting to cuddle up on my lap or feet or whatever other body part she can get close to. They are great dogs, and I haven't yet had a bad experience with one. I run into more little dogs with bad personalities than dobies. And it isn't a 'miniature doberman' it's a miniature pinscher. They are in no way related and aren't anything alike, as far as I have seen, when it comes to personality. They require a lot of work when it comes to keeping them mentally stimulated, but that is one of the reasons why I wanted one. They are great dogs to have and I've found them to be very social in all kinds of situations with different people and animals(other than little furry things, then it's all a big game of chase, and the dog usually wins unless the animal can get up a tree). Absolutely the best breed I've ever owned, and will continue to own one as long as I possibly can.

Hi J S, I currently have three Dobermans, A female who is the mother to a female and male that I also have. I have owned nine Dobermans over the last 25+ years. I just love the breed!!!!! Very affectionate, beautiful and intelligent. As a matter of fact my one female is nick-named Kissy-Kissy since she wants to give you kisses all day long. She can't seem to love me enough!!!Not a vicious bone in their body. Well I guess they would be so if someone tried to hurt me, their mother.

You are soooo lucky. We have had them for over 20 years. Our last one died last year age 12 and i am looking for another but b4 i go for a puppy i am going to look for a rescue. They are fab dogs. We got the first one Ben when my son was 6 yrs and he would follow him everywhere. They are very loyal however they usually only listen to one master although they will honour and protect the entire family. No they not nasty at all. It is people that make them seem bad. I am soooo happy for you.
