Take a trip to http://www.creditboards.com

This is a forum dedicated to fixing your credit. There is a section there that is loaded with letter templates. Just search around a bit and you will find them.

www.microsoft.com has many templates for most any request. You will be searching for a letter template. The specific information you will be putting in that letter is up to you. You will not find a letter with your specific information to a collection company.

From here, I can tell you what your collection agency's payment options will be. They'll want you to either pay in full or pay as much of the balance owed as possible. Personally, I wouldn't put the ball in their court and ask them what type of agreement they are willing to make. I would let them know what you are willing to offer. Here is a letter that might help you get started:

RE: PROPOSAL TO SETTLE ACCOUNT

Dear [Name]:

My income barely covers my living expenses and I have no assets to sll in order to pay your or my other creditors. I am committed to paying this debt and am willing to offer a settlement of _____ cents on the dollar as payment in full.

According to my records, my balance is $[amount]. Based on a settlement of ______ cents on the dollars, I can make my payment in full of $[amount] by [date].

If you accept this proposal, please be prepared to report this account as 'paid in full' to all three credit reporting agencies once I have made the payments we agree upon, and indicate such in writing to me as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please contact me at (111) 111-1111.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

I know this isn't *exactly* what you're looking for, but it's the closest thing I have in my little bag of goodies. Obviously, you can modify the letter to say what you need it to say. I would maybe call the collection agency first and see what the balance is and then write the letter. Hope that helps!
