There are various forms of recreation available on every military outpost. However, the forms and popularity depend on the region, size of outpost, and the members.

My first duty station was a small base in California. Other then bowling and weight lifting, there were really no "sports" offered on the base. Anybody that wanted to participate had to take a 1 hour or more drive to one of the larger bases. We did have a few members that did that to participate in Rodeo events, but that is about it. I know of 3 guys who were former Golden Gloves champs, but none of them had any interest in participating while in the service.

Later in my career, I was stationed at Camp Lejeune. This was the headquarters for the 2nd Marine DIvision, and had an active sports program. Some of the people on base even participated in the Olympics (1 boxer, 1 wrestler, 2 marksmen, 1 specialized in biathalon).

It all depends on how good you are, and where you are stationed. If you are at a small base, you can always try out of the "Army Boxing Team", but the competition for that is very stiff.

Mostly, military sports are viewed simply as a recreation. You will have sports available - mostly depending on the intrest in your unit. Sports like Boxing are rarely seen outside of the Division level. This is simply because of the number of people interested to make up a team that covers the various weight classes.

I was in the Navy, and we would occasionally have boxing and wrestling on board with the Marines (I was on an amphibious assault ship). I'm sure the Army will have something similar. Check with the rec department after basic once you get to your duty station.

Once you finish boot camp and reach your duty station, they do have gyms and yes I'm sure you'll be able to box. Be it for recreation or competition.
